First-person-only stuttering. I think I've tried just about everything! Good camera/Animation replacement maybe? please help!!!
To be clear this is happening in FIRST PERSON ONLY. I can't stress that enough it seems from other posts of this kind. So yes I know there are already many posts about this and they all get off topic to the point where people forget this is a FIRST PERSON ONLY PROBLEM. Please Please Please do not turn this into a discussion about FPS since it would be illogical for that to be a problem when THIRD PERSON is FLAWLESS while causing a generally higher FPS.

To start off I am using a Radeon 6870 with the latest driver (still old) and I am aware that there just may be no hope for me. But in case there's something I havent tried yet... please feel free to let me know. Here's what I've tried:

Even though I am quite sure this is not a FPS issue, I have tried all logical combinations of AA and AF implemented both by skyrim and CCC, as well as a FPS limiter at one point.

Though I am sure it is not mouse acceleration, I have turned it to zero. And while I am unaware of how Vsync or uexteriorbuffer would help a problem that is specific to first person view only, I have turned the former off and changed the latter from 36 to 72. I also tried a suggested fix of turning hyperthreading off (also weird).

And lastly, I have tried windowed mode in several ratios and pixel counts, which seems to work for almost everybody, and the problem remains.

The best sounding reason I have come accross so far for the problem is that there is an issue with the translation of the up and down camera movement animation which would explain why actual side to side camera movement is [almost] fine, while up and down and especially diagonal movements cause the the stuttering.

The problem is I havent seen a fix for this at the root of the problem (if it is that). A replacement mod of some kind for the camera movement animation might be a solution but I have yet to find one that doesnt come with its own problems that I'm not willing to deal with! So if anyone knows where I can find a good one I'm all for that too.

Thanks to anyone who reads this whole frackin' thing and has the knowledge to suggest something new!

Are you running any mods that would change the models and or animations for your hands and weapons? Could be a conflict there you don't see when not in first person...esp on animations.

It happensmods or no mods involved. I'm pretty sure this is a vanilla problem coupled with my 6870. and I tend to agree with a previous post I've read that it didn't start happening until after one of the first updates and that was well before CK which is when i started adding mods. I cant be sure about the update thing since I dealt with it for some time thinking it was graphical until realizing 3rd person was completely fine!

That would have been awesome if one of the animation mods I've tried replaced that camera and solved my problem but no luck so far. The 3rd person to 1st person mod that puts a camera on the eyebone looks cool but like I said above - too many additional issues with that mod.

If it was the GPU it would most certainly be a problem in both 3rd and first person I would think....it would be very bizarre, as third person is a bigger hit usually on GPU then first person, and the game doesn't render it really differently. When you say updates....you mean a skyrim update? Do you have any DLC?

If you have ANY mods...i highly recommend you use BOSS to order them, and see if that helps, and look for conflict warnings. The next step is TES5edits....but that one can be tricky and mess up your game, so watch videos on using it before you do, (it's really not hard you just need to know how, and what NOT to do) if you don't feel comfortable with that.....back up your saves and reinstall. I jsut don't think this is a GPU issue. If you really think it is not much you can do but check for driver updates. and research issues specific with that card.

Yes and No. the "excuse" I've read that makes sense points to a translation issue with the camera movement commands and the GPU, causing it to inject micro side to side movements into what should be strictly up and down movements, and consequently the diagonal camera movements are even worse. It is not the performance of the GPU because you're right that it would affect 3rd person as well.

All I know about the GPU and this problem is that it is more common with users of the radeon 6k and 7k series and more so with switchable graphics cards, but not limited to them. driver is up to date. and yes I do mean skyrim updates, though I am unsure when the problem really started, but I do know It was before any modding. Also I should have originally posted that I did do a full reinstall as one of my first fix attempts.

Hmm so the head bob effect? Pretty sure you can turn that on and off in the ini file....

2 things....

Inside the game hit the ~ key to get the console
Then type: fov 90
Press enter

see if that fixes it...but now you won't have headbob

you can make it perm in ini adding this

[Display]
fDefaultWorldFOV=

if that doesn't work try this mod
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1450

Still either way your sort of disabling a realistic effect of game, if that is issue I would really look to see if anyone has found a fix for drivers for card......

Of course there's always the upgrade your card option....:D Can't tell you how much I love my GTX 670, just upgraded from a HD7850 that ran pretty sweet too.....I just overburdoned it with an insane number of mods.
DeusExMachina Apr 14, 2013 @ 12:08am
Well I don't see eliminating head bob as the solution since the problem is certainly independent of that affect, however a slight FOV change just might force a better translation. Does any change to the FOV eliminate Head Bobbing? and does this affect 3rd person as well?

But yeah I think from what ive heard about my card that i want to upgrade anyway,
DeusExMachina Apr 14, 2013 @ 12:18am
Eh. Didn't work anyway. Nice thought though. New card it is!

It's a CPU issue. If you use AMD dual core get dual-core optomizer. Otherwise try running in lower resolution.
DeusExMachina Apr 14, 2013 @ 1:35am
minase - you are clearly a non-reading poster. but to explain anyway - I have a quadcore i7. By default the game plays on all 4 CPUs, processing as 8 CPUs using hyperthreading, while I know that doesnt do that much extra good my main point is that none of them are ever working all that hard while I play. I have tried many resolutions with no affect on this problem. I promise you and any prospective future poster that I am not over-working my CPU or GPU. If you insist that is the problem and can explain why it does not happen in 3rd person I'm all ears.

more specific. let me know if it fixed it.

I don't know SerffT, I can't see where this issue is caused by his system. I myself run with almost flawless video on much less than he is. 2yr old AMD 6 Core running 32bit Win7 (only uses 2.75 to 3 gigs of ram), I can and have run the game well on a single 5770 Radeon, (of course it runs better when Crossfired) and didn't experience any 1st person issues like what he is describing.
Of couse it could be caused by something running on Win in the background can't rule that out. and I can't think of a game issue that would cause only first person probs. I can only suggest looking at any other software that might be running in Windows background that might be interfering with the video, any joysticks that are connected, game pads, multiple mice, just a suggestion as I am truley stumped.
