Switchable Graphics - Skyrim still using Intel HD instead of AMD Radeon
Just got a new laptop, with an AMD Radeon 7730M, but Skyrim only sees the Intel HD which quite frankly is a pile of- you get the idea. I've got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 8, an i7 processor, 8GB of ram, and it tells me I can run Skyrim on low quality? Haha, no, I don't think so.

Does ANYBODY know how to make it use my AMD Radeon over the stupid Intel? Catalyst Control Centre is saying it's using "High Performance", but I still think it's using the Intel graphics card.

I think I had the same problem in Oblivion with my Nvidia/optimus card. I'm not familiar with Catalyst, but it seems like there should be an option to force it to use the dedicated GPU. On my laptop, it's fairly obvious when the GPU is being used because the fans really kick up.

You should be able to choose wich graphics card to use on the startup screen. I think it's under options? Whichever one that allows you to change your graphics settings, there should be a drop down bar on the top.

Read your laptop manual; goto it's Dell support page.

No, it only shows Intel. Device Manager shows two cards.

They have nothing, and mine came with no manual.

All laptops have manuals. If it's not a physical pamplet, then it's on your harddrive.

You may also want to cehck your AMD Catalyst control panel. There could be soem settings there

I have the same problem. The thing is that it cannot recognize your card but, in fact, it is using it.

for nvidia cards, go to control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, select the program you want to force your system to use nvidia gpu then save. I have my system following this set-up http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/624541-m14x-skyrim-performance-questions-best-driver-settings-general-chatter-discuss-here.html
also make sure that your power plan settings is set to maximum performance.

for amd cards, sorry but i don't have any resource for now, will come back once i find some.

I have the same problem and was wondering if it was using the card but not telling me

Mine doesn't appear to be using the AMD card - is Skyrim running in open gl and could that be the issue?

I know this is an old thread, but I had this issue too. I am now running Windows 10 and just upgraded to the latest AMD drivers recently released and for the first time Skyrim found my discrete HD7600 card and is playing far faster than it ever did before under any OS.

I have the same problem, after a while on Google I just found it is a common problem with Skyrim recognizing the AMD card. I haven't found a solution for it yet.
