This.
Autodidact Wizard, Apocalypse Spell Package, and Dynamic Spells - these are the magic mods I use
Autodidact Wizard gives you spells in a particular category just for leveling, its not for people who want to save money but for people who think that through practice you learn.
Apocalypse Spell Package just adds a lot of spells, they cannot be learned through Autodidact and must be purchased from vendors, some of these spells are awesome, like alexia's grace. I have never gotten a high enough level destruction to try out all of the spells but early levels these spells I can vouch, these spells are not OP and do not break the game experience.
Dynamic Spells increase the damage of spells as you put more points into the skill tree, Flames at level 5 destruction will do less than Flames at level 25 destruction. Its done very well and is non game breaking/OP. If you were to get one of these, definitely get Dynamic Spells.
-----
Unread Books Glow - highly recommended - if you like the TES lore AT ALL
Reduced Distance NPC Greetings - highly recommended
Auto Unequip Arrows - person preference, I love this though and the mod performs flawlessly. do you use 3rd person view often? then use this.
Psychosteve's DragonPriest Masks - silly name, cool mod
House Map markers - highly recommended
Bandolier - Bags and Pouches - I just started using this recently and love it, when it comes down to it, it really just saves on fast travelling and loading, the busy work of skyrim. it kind of feels like cheating though.
Stronger Daedric Artifacts - Recommended because I don't think an ordinary smith could create stronger artifacts than gods/demigods
Dynamic Merchants - the only mod I use that sort of.. cheats - it adds to the gold supply of merchants when you sell expensive items to them. All of the merchants in my game hover around 1700 instead of 600.
Graphic mods:
Crimson Tide - Blood *NEW 2.2* - theres so many blood mods out there I couldn't tell you which one is best.
HD Plants + Herbs
Pure Waters - highly recommended
Better Dynamic Snow - highly recommended
Real Glaciars V2 - highly recommended
Better Embers - ya
More Rain - preference
Lush Trees and Grass
Water and Terrain Enhancement Redux
Immersive Saturation Boost - the game looks much better with this mod imo, its personal preference ofc, and your frames do not take a hit. highly recommended
Realistic Map + Roads ! - highly recommended, greatly improves the map
Detailed Mine Map Markers - I like to mine but this isn't necessary in any way shape or form.
RNG (Dynamic) Guards - changes up how the guards in each hold look, highly recommended.
I've been doing the same and added Sky UI for a PC friendly interface after fighting with the default consolized UI. Bandoliers might be the first game play effecting mod I get. Sounds promising from what I read, but I'm weary of breaking saves.
I agree that adding weight allowance is cheating, but there's nothing worse than being out in the middle of nowhere over encumbered after your horse runs off and follower disappears (no fast travel, ugh).
TIP: There is still the game "exploit" where you can tell your follower to "do something" and have them pick up items, bypassing any weight limits. Love loading them with a ton of staffs and wondering which one they bring out in battle. I loaded mine up like a pack mule. Never would have been able to pick up all those dragon bones and scales without it.
In the end, it's a game, and one of the things I hate most is worrying about mundane stuff like carry weights, so I smudge the line a little and usually end up using inventory mods. My main playthrough in Oblivion was as an archer so I used a magic "infinite arrows" ring. Sometimes it feels a little dirty, but as I don't get that much time to play, I'd rather keep the chores to a minimum (I get enough of that IRL -- maybe we can just count that as like life credits in Skyrim).
I must be the only guy on pc who prefers playing with my controller. i hate mouse and keyboard but its a necessity for shooters and strategy.
