Why aren't There Any Cats in Skyrim????

and I don't mean the big, growly, claw happy ones. I mean the small cuddly, purry ones. Someone did a cat mod for Oblivion.... WHERE ARE THE CAT LOVERS OF SKYRIM????

Somebody should do the mod that's all I'm saying. I don't know how, but I'm sure if we kitty freaks can finally get a kitty on the Monopoly board we should be able to get one into Skyrim.

Not that I could load it right now, my mods won't update and I can't subscribe to new ones so even if someone did the mod I couldn't get it ARGH!! :P

There don't actually appear to be actual Writers at Bethesda either, but meh...when it gets too much to take, I just turn off and go out for a walk or something, plenty of pigs in RL......

I personally believe the reason we see no cats officially is due to the lore issues.

In lore, cats exist yes. However, cats (likely not all of them) are born of Khajiit. Depending on the moonphase, a Khajiit child will take several forms. Some Khajiit are human like, some elf, some are feral tigers, some domestic housecats. It all depends on the phase of the moon and when they are born.

The problem is Bethesda has been backtracking in their fantasy lore. A few years ago they would have jumped at the opportunity at creating such a rich and unique fantasy world, but ever since Oblivion it seems they are... fearful? of producing lore that is considered too "high fantasy".

Basically the plots and world lore of TES has degenerated to that of a bad Hollywood film adaptation. Evil dudes are evil because prophesy says so and its your job to stop them, and any and all of their rich fantasy lore takes backseat to whatever they think will appeal to the masses.

Having a world where Cat people are giving birth to domestic housecats is... out there. They are probably never going to depict anything remotely like this in any of their future games if they continue this pace of dumbing down the fantasy. Hell, there have been interviews with Todd talking about his desire to wipe the Elder Scrols Lore clean and starting over... basically, don't expect to see housecats in an Elder Scrolls game till Bethesda can fit in a dragon break or end up starting the lore from scratch.

You could might be able to retex a fox into a cat.

Quest aids as cats. When you need a distraction, just toss out a cat and direct it to walk by whatever you are trying to distract. (lol) If it were a Khajit, there could be some amusing results... "Uncle Nimrod??? Is tha you?? Nimrod wait come back I didn't mean to (what ever)..."
Thanks to the wonderful efforts of modders I now have pet cats, and they are essential too (they will definitely outlive me....)

That, is absolutely classic!!! Except that using cats as markers would be completely unhelpful if they were like real cats. They would lead you to an empty cardboard box and just crawl in there, fall asleep and u'd still be lost ;"D

Very true but if they led the NPC you were trying to distract to such a location, they would have served the purpose perfectly.

Dogs can be not much better, I asked my dog to lead me to my husband yesterday. She led me to the butcher's shop, which was closed btw, and then gave me a look of such satisfaction.
