Should I try to reinstall again but this time make sure all files are deleted? I had a cleric I was really having fun with too...
Sometimes just deleting everything and starting fresh is the best way to go, especially if you are not a total computer game nerd.

If you do decide to nuke your game and reinstall it fresh by letting Steam download it then consider backing up the new install after it is all downloaded and patched, before you start playing and adding mods. You can back up the game to your hard-drive using Steam's back up feature. That way you have a clean copy of the game that is quick to install if you muck things up. I know it has saved my bacon more than once when I was first starting out with the game.
Very good advice thumbs up

Thanks furry think I will just do that really sucks that I will have to start a new game though!
I start new games a lot because I muck things up trying out new mods, or I get bored with the current character.

I know what it is like losing a fav character, but sometimes starting over is the only sure way of getting the game running again.

I am really bad about starting new games I just finally have a few characters that I can't get bored with. Oh well maybe time to start with the nexus thing, I could try that mod that redoes all of the skill trees.

Did you start a new game without any mods or did you install mods after doing a fresh install download?

You really need to try getting the game to load/run totally vanilla (no mods) first before you start mashing mods into the mix. If you have Steam workshop mods you subscribed to that automaticall downloaded when you installed the game you need to disable those from the Data Files link on the launcher app before you start trying to play the game.

Hi guys,
Mine crashes as I run down the road, probably when I get to the end of one area and pass into a new area that doesn't load. It just crashes to the desktop. I have about 20 mods going, and i was about to start unsubscribing one at a time and see if i can get this fixed. My questions are:
Is there any way for someone who is not the author of a mod to get it updated? (If thats the issue).
Is there somehting else it might be? It was running beautifully before the update . . .
I ran that option for skyrim when you right-click the game in Library to re-aquire content (or something like that) and it concludes with a message that "1 file was missing and will be re-acquired" - but it won't say which file! Any ideas??
Thanks to anyone who reads this and thanks for anyone who might have any answers!

I am getting some weird lag and crashes too...but not due to mods...due to crappy steam....steam seams to think it needs to have tons more control and disk access then it needs too....seriously beginning to hate steam.
Concept was neat..but they have gotten way to stupid....i play skyrim and find steam trying to download or update or do things right while i am playing....

I am guessing that since steam did its own update not to long ago as well....i bet people having issues....will find its mostly steam related....i mean just how many times does their overlay thing need to crash and why the heck does steam keep renaming their own program or worse have to acess registry values?

what i want to know is why the hell we have to delete all mods becaues of a steam update. Seems to me its Steams fault for A)making an update that screws up games b) not freeking telling us not to do the damb update

If anyone cares, I got it working again. Turns out most of the mods werent supported with the new update....so from 200 to 10 mods... :'(
so what is the point of mods it steam can jsut invalidate them all with a steam update, not even a game update, maybe hte question should be whats the point of having steam

Not all mods get invalidated by a Steam update. Out of the nearly 200 mods I have only 3 that needed to be updated (the Unofficial Patch files), and several had updates that made them better, but the previous version would have (and did) work just fine after the update patches.

Yep, crashing at the logo usually means there's a missing master (mod requires something that's now missing).

Gopher gives some shortcuts here for checking what might be missing:

but this is a total crock. The load order worked fine before the update to steam, its STEAMS PROBLEM

Actually it isn't. Steam/Bethesda is not responsible for what you do to modify your game, they can't keep track of every mod that might modify core things in the game and still be able to fix bugs in the core game.

BTW, you do realize that Steam has very little to do with the game other than being a portal for acquiring and patching the game, don't you? Bethesda made the game, they fix the bugs. If you want to whinge and throw brickbats then do so at Bethesda.

I too am having issues, though no crashes. Since the latest update, my game has been extremely laggy. I even nuked the install, removed all signs of the game and any mods, and still, the game is hardly playable. Even starting a new game doesn't help. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

No, sadly you are not the only one that suffers with intermittent lagginess since the last two updates, especially when going from one area to another via a loading screen. It seems having autosave on travel enabled is a big contributor to the lag, I turned it off and the game was not as laggy by a long shot.
