Creation Kit problems with Argonian
I made an Argonian follower just fine. Except for one thing. I selected a bunch of colors for things like the forehead, cheeks, neck and so forth as per usual. And it all displayed correctly in the preview of the creation kit. But once I booted up the game it wasnt there. He functioned like he should and had the correct skin color, nose, hair, eyecolor and all that but non of the added colors to the face. Like they had all been set to default or something. and this happens everytime I try to make an argonian. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Select your character in Object window of the CK and hit CTRL + F4. That will export the Facegen data, so the character will show up properly.

Actually I tried it and it didn't do anything. I guess I'll see if google can help.

It should work, make sure you aren't selecting your character from All.

I had this problem with warpaint when I was creating a new form of an existing actor. The warpaint wouldn't show up and it wasn't a "grey face" issue. I ended up starting over.

Duplicating an existing actor and then renaming is the safest approach, it would seem.

I particularly liked the method of creating the look of ur NPC ingame as detailed here. Very handy when making multiple efforts at getting an NPC "perfect".

Same problem as well, for my avatar. No facepaint or coloring changes would show up. She looked fine, just plain. Generating the facegen fixed it for me, but whatever works.

I don't know retrospectively if I was selecting my NPC in *all. So I will check that if I have a next time.

No dice. It says it exports the facegen data but it doesnt show up in game at all. Looks like Ill have to call it quits. skyrim obviously doesn't want me to have cool followers..

I had to create a NEW actor before I could get it to work, but new actors are very tricky to get right. Much harder than it would seem.

yeah. I've only tried making new characters. They function perfectly. Except the facegen.. And since the creation kit SAYS its exported there's nothing I can do. Just gotta deal with a plain lizard..

Sorry it's not helping Kidney. You might try asking here (if you haven't):

or here:

Someone might have another idea as to why it's not working.

CTRL+F4 Doesn't do anything, bump.

Another thing that seems to help is making sure that any sliders that are applied in the facegen data tab (i.e. make-up colours. warpaint, skin tones etc) are "set" at the value you want. This is done by selecting the "set" button below the colour selection. Since doing this I have no more trouble.

Does anyone know why I can't interact with my CK made Argonian follower?

I just created one, I have that same error message as original poster, however the mod loads on skyrim ok and sits where I want it. It randomly speaks, however (Using Xbox 360) the (A) button to speak to it, does no action, same with KB&M.

Do argonian race not have scripts or something that won't allow follower interactions? I made mods before just fine, I haven't in a while and just made this new one, I'm keeping it private for now until I get it to work but it seems outlandish that it's not working properly like there's a broken function somewhere.

I also went back to follow a very old tutorial:

Apart from posting on a more than 3 year old thread :P The original poster doesn't say anything about an error message so I'm confused.

Your follower is perhaps missing factions, it's been so long since I've made a follower for Skyrim. The memories are very faded now.

Firstly, you need a supported voicetype. Argonian male is supported for follower but not marriage as far as I can remember.

Then you need these keywords:
CurrentFollowerFaction -1
PotentialFollowerFaction 0

Then, more than I can fit in this post really. I've always liked this method for making followers, exporting facegen data from in game is a huge time saver imo:
