Which follower to sacrifice during the Boethiah's Calling quest?
I'm trying to decide which follower in the game I can recruit in order to continue with the Boethiah quest, the one where you have sacrifice a follower. I'm certainly not using any of my regular followers who I'm much too attached to, so researched on wiki who would be more dispensable and who I wouldn't feel so guilty about killing. lol. So I thought of Sven in Riverside as I've never really had anything to do with him, a simple bard with low level cap of 20 - not one who would be missed much maybe. But he seems harmless so I'd feel guilty!. Then I thought of Roggie Knot-Beard or whatever his name is, who I've never met before, so made a trip to Kynesworth to meet him, but again he seems a kind soul. I wish I could recruit that old bat who runs Radient Raiment in Solitude, shame you can't, I'd love to sacrifice her! haha.

So anyway, who would you recommend and why? I don't want to use any of the high level cap followers, more like someone who is not so essential to the game.

I don't reall use followers so I never tried it, but I assume you can just resurrect the person afterwards.

If you use mods, there's a alternative to betraying a follower called Boetthia for Good Guys:

If you search, there are also a couple of other mods on Nexus that provide sacrifices so you don't have to use any of the vanilla followers.

Thanks, I'll check it out, although I've played the game mostly vanilla up till now. :)

If you have to resort to a mod, you are sort of missing the point of Boethiah's quest – you may just as well give yourself the ebony mail and setstage the quest to finish it. If you really want a follower you can feel somewhat good about sacrificing, try doing the Namira quest line. Roggie is often chosen because of his low level cap, matched only by Sven.

It's all about the choice and its permanent consequences. Just because a Daedra Prince gives you a shiny unique item for you to eternally store inside a chest doesn't mean you have to follow up on it. In Vaermina's quest you'll face a very similar dilemma. I like how Skyrim makes you challenge your character's morality for some of the Daedric artifacts.

Dawg just hire a mercenary from one of the taverns in Whiterun.

Marcurio, I never used him as a follower thought he'd make a better sacrifice.

The drunk from Silver Blood tavern, or the girl from Darkwater Crossing.

I just picked some random orc from one of the strongholds who has no unique dialogue and absolutely no impact on the game.

Well I decided to install that mod, I just couldn't think of anyone I felt happy about sacrificing. The quest was still fairly challenging after that and I think I earnt the ebony mail, although I'd say my heavy ebony armor with 25 health bonus is probably better. :)

I did the Namira (cannibal) quest before and decided to spare Brother wotsisname's life and killed the cannibals instead. haha. I can do without a ring that enables you to feast on human flesh for health and stamina. And there was another Daedric quest where I let the guy survive and didn't get the reward. I know I won't get the Daedric achievement but I don't really care. I think it's slightly unfair that the game forces you to make immoral choices just to get a particular achievement.

You can go to any of the Orc strongholds, do a quest to help them, then pick up a follower.

You could have used one of the several mercenaries around Skyrim or like a respawning Dark Brotherhood member.

Yeah, I guess I'm a softie at heart! I don't even kill the dragons 75% of the time!

Are you sure you can use the Dark Brotherhood members? I was under the impression that they couldn't be used. Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

That was probably the former Vaermina worshipper. There's a lot of achievements that are related to 'immoral' choices, like those regarding joining the Dark Brotherhood, the Thieves Guild, becoming a werewolf and slaying the Silver Hand, getting a certain crime rep, etc. The best way to deal with them is just to create a branching saved game just to complete them.

A lot of the game content isn't tailored to be moral. In a lot of ways it's like GTA - there to explore some of the darkest, scummiest alleys of the Elder Scrolls universe. There's also a few quests and places that have a hidden side to them. For example, Ingun Black-Briar has you gathering Deathbell, Nirnroot, and Nightshade for her alchemy studies. Those are ingredients used for some of the most potent poisons, and if you ask her about her interests, she'll slowly hint at how she's using those 'alchemy ingredients'. Food for thought next time you think you are simply helping someone out with some errand :)

I completely agree. I killed the cannibals and the Dark Brotherhood essentially for the same reason. I don't have a problem killing people or creatures who want to kill me, but I tend not to kill any that are not a threat. (I occasionally make exceptions for creatures who have items that I can use in potions, but even then sparingly.)
