Message to Whiterun Cant finish (Stormcloak)

Well i just started the Civil War Quest Line. I just got to the part where you have to delever the axe to balgruf. I did so i returned it to Ulfric then he starts talking to Galmar about going to take Whiterun. After that he turns to me and talks to me but it gives me no option to start the Battle for whiterun. I've tried reloading, installing the Unoffical Patch, and restarting the quest line but nothing works. Can you please help me.

Is the quest still open? If so, at what stage, what exactly does your journal say? Also, how comfortable are you with using the console?

I've ran into a lot of bugs with the civil war quest line...modded and un-modded. A majority of the time it is a mix of console commands and loading previous saves. Sometimes they are saves that are an hour or more back. I'm not sure if running Tes5Edit would help...maybe clean up some mods and intiate BOSS. Possibly could help with the script...I've had lots of occasions in Skyrim where things will just not trigger. All you can really do is load saves or check conflicting mods

I meant if the quest is still in progress you could probably just initiate the next stage via console command, setstage cw03 240. Alternatively, you might be able to just start "Battle for Whiterun" with setstage CWSiegeObj 1.

Well i am at the part where you give the axe back to ulfric and then he talks to galmar. In the journal it says wait for ulfric orders or something like that. So i will try setting the stage. Oh and do you think that civil war overhaul will have an impact on the questline.

Hmm, could be that the mod messes with the quest stages, I haven't tried it myself and don't know what it does. You can see here how things are supposed to be in vanilla (bottom of the page):

Sounds like you're at stage 225, so in theory "setstage CW03 240" or "setstage CW03 255" should advance it further (without quotation marks). No guarantees though. You can find out the exact quest stage with "getstage CW03".

The error message is weird, if you haven't made a typing error, I can only imagine it's because Civil War overhaul changed the quest references or sth.

i looked at the link you gave me and it says that ulfric will tell me i am to help take the city.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas then, hope you have fun with the next character. The whole civil war questline is super buggy, I'd say definitely keep a save from before you even start it!

Sorry for jumping on your thread, Icy19, but this quest line is super buggy, I've finished the main quest line and have spent a solid 10 hours trying to get the civil war to start. I'm at the same point, sided with the Stormcloaks in the Jagged Crown quest, but now, after delivering Ulfric's axe to Balgruf, and then taking it back to Ulfric, he will not progress the quest to the next stage (Quest CW03, 240).

As such the next quest, battle for whiterun doesn't start (CWSiegeObj) and cannot be started manually.
