Soul Gems losing their souls after taking them out of a nightstand.
I've had my soul gems just sitting in my nightstand in Whiterun. I decided to smith some daggers and enchant them. I have about 50 Petty Soul Gems (Petty). When I take them out, They are empty. Is this a glitch or does this always happen. Having Skyrim on steam, I assume that it updates to newer versions, but I don't know. Does anyone know how I can keep my souls in my gems?

You have to keep them in your inventory to keep them from emptying. See the ‘Bugs’ section of the UESP article on Soul Gems[www.uesp.net].

One thing you can do, especially if you have done the Azura quest and wound up with the black star version. Give them to your companion, they don't loadhim/her up. That way for me the black star is usually an option to reload my weapon. I usually give Lydia my grand, greater, keep my repular filled ones, as emergency backup, give my lesser and petty to Lydia. I have found that even storing them in a container doesn't stop them from loosing a charge. I think the fact that saves occur with both of us together keeps things correct. Btw, I keep the uncharged soul gems myself ready for charging

Thanks for the link. I didn't think to look there. I actually got it to work. If I took all 50 out of the nightstand, they remained full in my inventory. If I took less, the ones coming in to my inventory were empty.
