Tip to avoid brawling
Brawls are stupid and break the flow of the game. You can get around them by:

wait for the brawl to begin
press `/~ (the grave key) to open the console
left click on the enemy
type "kill"

He/she will drop to 1 hp and you'll win. There. No more stupid BS.

Oh, and you can opt out of the thieves guild too (talk to the woman running the bar in riften). Have fun.

I dont want to carry gloves the pugulist around, I don't do heavy armor, and I'm not a catman. The game forces me to crank around 5hp from a dude in markarth for like 3 minutes because I'm level 52. This is stupid.

make sure you activate the fists of steel perk FIRST
as the guards don't care really if someone dies in a fist fight
like MAUL in Riftem for example
hey you !get over here.... i don't you.... you looking for trouble?

Oh, it definitely is cheating, but what does that really mean? There's no effect on achievements (this is a single player game that supports mods after all) and it is something that lets you bypass an element of the game. I don't think it's bad though since brawling is just about the worst combat gameplay I've ever seen and there's no way to exploit this to make massive gold/levels. I'm not even sure if unarmed levels any skills at all, which would mean it is a literal waste of your time when they force you to do this.

I dunno. It just seems like you should have the choice. Unarmed takes a lot of work to make it worthwhile, like picking a catman at character creation. Brawls are still bad in that case though because the game glitches out and you can kill the person you're brawling. Brawling is just... bad.

yes, i remember when i had to punch a guy for 5 minutes when i played the game at release.

Nothing wrong with skipping that.

I hate brawls. Stupid gawkers getting in the way. "Oh no! 40 bounty added to Whiterun!" -__________________________-

You don't have to have Kahjit claws, Gloves of the Puglist, or Fists of Steel perk to win brawls. Putting a decent amount of boost into health through leveling or equipment helps, but honestly, the brawl AI hits very slowly and is easy to kite. Hit them once or twice, step back as they swing, repeat.

People getting in the way, on the other hand, is so annoying. I have to dodge around them and if I hit one, I have to leave the brawl to pay the bounty and then the enemy health recharges.

You can skip brawls entirely though, with a decent speech skill or some other task that will get you past it, or just not accepting the challenge.
