Character can't enter sneak mode

Hey all,

I'm really jarateed at Skyrim atm, I created a stealthy ranged dude and after playing 30 hours, sneak is suddenly bugged.

Upon pressing ctrl (default button to enter sneak mode) my character briefly enters sneak mode and immediately returns to normal stance. Sneak mode is unusable now.

I've tried reloading the game, fast-travelling, using items like forges to reset my stance,... There is also no sickness or active effect involved. Anyone got an idea? My character just leaves sneak mode after half a second of entering it.

did you select the standing stone of thief ?
have you got SNEAK up to 100 yet?
do you have levelers tower mod installed?
in there you can bump any skill to 100
or use the console lightstar books for perk codes
create a bat file to give you instant all sneak perks
just some idea's for ya

Fixed it by dumping all my equipment and then picking it back up again. For some reason some random item was not allowing me to go in stealth. Strange stuff :D

This may be too late to help the OP, but I've solved this issue myself after quite a bit of troubleshooting and I can now say exactly what causes this issue and how to solve it.

If you are getting this issue, then somewhere, recently, you have tried to mine ore that could not be mined. Maybe you have a mod, like Build Your Own Home, and you tried to mine some of the stubborn ore deposits in the werewolves hidden lair. Maybe you've just come across an ore deposit in the game that is not working correctly for some reason. In any case, the game is stuck half-thinking that you're trying to mine something and is unsure what to do about it, so now, when you enter sneak mode, you pop right back out of it again.

The solution? Drop all of your pickaxes. You will get some kind of message in the upper left corner telling you your mining attempt failed. Now pick up your pickaxe(s). Everything should work fine now.

The op was able to solve this by dumping all of his equipment because his/her pickaxe was the culprit. =)

For real. The thread was created in 2013. It got two responses. Then, some guy in 2014 bumped it. Now you're bumping it in 2015. WHY

I realize this is three years old. But I had the same issue that wasn't resolved by above solutions.

I fixed it by sitting down somewhere and standing back up.
Maybe someone in the future will find this helpful

Hey so I don't know if people are still having this problem, but after about three months I've found a solution. Figured I could help some people having the same problem, so here goes. I went into the controls in the options menu, clicked on the crouch button so that I could reset it. Pressed the same button and everything. Worked fine after that.

well, this is VERY late, but i found that almost every case is caused when player movement is disabled (mainly sneak), so using the command enableplayercontrols should help
