Annoying change of horse colour - Can anyone help?
I recently installed the Convenient Horse Mod, and the first thing I noticed when I logged in was that my horse had changed colour.

It had been a dappled grey which Garik had travelled all the way to Riften stables to purchase, because that colour matched the horse he had found on the road next to a dead bandit earlier in the game and had been riding around ever since.

I wanted to pretend that Garik has finally managed to tame the horse and make it his own.

But after installing the CH mod it had changed colour to dun with a black mane and tail.

I'd really like to change it back to the original colour for continuity purposes, but having fast travelled to Riften stables it looks as though all the dappled grey horses have been changed to this dun colour.

Anyone any idea's how to get the original Riften colour back?

Looking at the mod in the MCM menu there is an option to change your follower's horse colors but not yours. The only thing I can think to try is make a save then go into the console, click your horse and type resurrect 1, that may change his/her color if so just do that command until you get the color you want. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks I'll try that, although my horse didn;t die, it looks to me as though the Convenient Horses Mod does a texture replace for the defaul horse colours. I haven't compared the horses for every stable, but it cetainly looks as though the Riften horse colour has been changed right across the board.

@Norpham: Well I tried your suggestion, but it didn't make any difference. All I got was a console message saying GetGlobalValue >> 0.00. It suggests that something happened but my horse didn't change colour.

@Everyone: I thought I might try installng a Slof's Horse Texture Mod, as he at least seems to have used the original horse colours as the basis for his retextures, so I figure that it might actually change them back to improved versions of the vanilla colours.

However, I can't find any instructions on how to instal them. Is it just a case of extracting them into the games Data Folder?

As an experiment I downloaded the retextured Dog mod and thought I'd see if Stump had received the expected make-over. But worryingly he seems to have dissappeared, or perhaps just made himself scarce from Riverwood.

So I travelled all the way to Whiterun on a dog hunt and couldn't find a single dog anywhere, which is beginning to worry me, as I don't recall dogs being that scarce in Skyrim.

I certianly don't want to instal a horse re-texture if all the horses are going to dissappear.

All I did with the Dog Mod was extract it into the data folder, so I now have three files:

dog.dds
dog_n.dds
dog_s.dds

in folder steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data/textures/actors/dog

Is that correct?

Hey everyone, I discovered an interesting way to change the color of your horse. If you are using a mod like Automatic Variants with different skin textures then here is how you can change the color of your horse.

1. Open console and click the horse.
2. Type DISABLE and hit enter (it will disappear)
3. Immedaitely type RECYCLEACTOR and hit enter
4. Immediately type Enable and hit enter.
the horse will then immediately respawn and Automatic Variants will re-skin it with a different color texture. Viola! You've changed the color of your hose!
