Enchanting worth it as full mage?
Wondering if its worth investing in enchanting as a full caster with no armor (just robes etc) and having both hands free to cast?

Having double enchants on everything can make up for lack of health/stamina or armour/melee or whatever you think you're lacking as mage.

Enchanting is a powerful skill, pretty much fit for ALL types of playstyles due to the amount of enchantments you can find on items. The skill, however, is a bit overpowered because once you get the Extra Enchant perk, all other types of named items and such will be completely useless because you'll be making better stuff.

I suggest magic mods that balances out the magic system in Skyrim, here are a few overhauls and small mods that affact Skyrim's magic sytem.

Skyre* (Skyrim Redone), Nexus only
Better Magic, Workshop and Nexus
Improved Magic System, Workshop only

*WARNING* Skyre is a MAJOR OVERHAUL of Skyrim, it affacts everything in the game, and the perk trees, I suggest researching this if you feel like the game needs a major improvement.

Note: the mod also affacts the Dragon Shouts by tieing them to the Speechcraft skill tree, which makes them vastly more powerful to use on higher difficulties of the game.

Also, consider, you're going to be breathed on by several different brands of dragons. When you hit enchantment 100 you can enchant a ring or necklace or shield to about 46% resistance (each item) to fire, and ice--fire and electric--fire and magic ( except magic's limited to 45% and then only if you've done the Solitude Necromancer quest and gotten the Solitude shield). Shoes and boots can also be fire and ice proofed, but not magic proofed.

I've eventually worked all my resistances to well over 100%, but, of course, dragon breath, and master vampire drain bypass 100% easily.

If you don't like the clothes for the head area (most guys aren't into circlets and I'm not sure if there's unenchanted hoods), there's a mod called TERA armor that has invisible headgear. You can craft them at any forge. As I mentioned earlier they also have pre enchanted robes as well as unenchanted clothes for the hands and feet. It's not entirely lore friendly, but I like it and find they do fit into the fantasy theme.

From the wiki:
Resist Magic is capped at 85%, this includes all forms of elemental and dragon breath attacks. A further 85% on elemental resistance can be achieved which will grant a potential 97% magic damage reduction on one element.
