Enchanting worth it as full mage?
Wondering if its worth investing in enchanting as a full caster with no armor (just robes etc) and having both hands free to cast?

I would say yes purely so you don't have to go hunting for good stats on armour and instead just enchant anything you need. it's a pretty good investment for most playstyles if you want to be really optimised.

So even without having to enchant 2 weps/wep+shield still overall worth it? May have to just have a gander at what special items exist for mage, and just how tough they are to get my hands on, then maybe pick up enchanting. Thanks Danielle

You can have enchantments on clothes (shoes, gloves, etc.) too so yes enchanting is very good. Many people make it so their spells cost very little or even nothing by adding multiple enchantments. Plus when you get to level 100 you can add 2 enchantments on each item.

oh wow i didnt realize you could enchant clothing other then robes! Thanks again for some spot on advicce SuperLotus97

You can also enchant light and heavy armor with magic cost reduction enchantments. Wearing all clothes is mainly for the mage armor perk or just if you think robes fits the roleplay of your character. I saw a mod recently that makes robes as light armor. TERA armor also has light armor versions of their pre-enchanted robes. I think they have to be unlocked somehow.

Yeah I definitely plan on sticking with robes, i do have points into mage armor perk. But still, I imagine its hard to find any good hands/feet slot special items so to be able to put my own enchantments on those would be a nice benefit
Magic is really the worst thing to run across in the game (in my humble opinion). When you hit 100 enchanting you can double enchant magic resist and destruction cost reduction to make yourself a boss. Magic immunity and free spells can be reached by using +enchanting potions when you decide to make all of your gear.

Plus, if you can get it in 3 pieces then you can equip actual armor to make yourself tankier vs physical.

Oh, and going full mage without enchanting isn't really an option late game due to how mana regen works. You regenerate 3% of your max mana per second outside of combat, 1% in combat. So unless your mana pool is really high (don't do this, you won't have any hp) then you're going to need some enchants to bring down the cost of spells.

These few lines of info might have just saved you hours of research and possibly days of wasted playtime. :camel:

All the tradeskills are OP. They are worth it, but I advise people its better not to partake in those things. Tradeskills in elderscrolls games are like built in hacks. Completely unbalanced and pointlessly overpowed.

I use a mod called Better Bartering http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21495/?
It makes buying prices much higher and selling lower so you can't afford crafting supplies at the beginning of the game. It makes things a bit more balanced. I'm also using mods that add better enchanted loot to the game so I don't feel like I have to rely on crafting to get good gear. I also didn't like how with my first character the best items I got were ones I bought in the shops rather than from adventuring.

You can dual enchant and enchantments stack, so a robe with health and stamina at say, 70 points each, plus ring and necklace the same would make you nigh invulnerable......almost. :-)

Enchanting is one of the mos powerfull skills in the game. Although the archmages robes are better than anything you can enchant, you can still make all the other clothing much, much more powerfull than the stuff you can find in game(don't forget you can enchant gloves as well).

It is also one of the skills that takes the longest to train. I highly advise you train with trainers up to maximum (90 I think).
Compared to the unique relics like rings and amulets, the stuff you can create at skill level 100 blows anything else away.

Enchanting goes up pretty quickly if you use powerful weapon enchantments like paralyze, turn undead, and banish daedra so you don't need to pay for trainers. In fact, you'll make a huge profit doing this to the point where it feels like an exploit. I plan on using Skytweak to reduce the amount of gold I get from enchanting stuff.
