I just made a non-steam sortchut to SKSE, works perfect. Also, you could try renaming skse_loader to SkyrimLauncher, so Steam would launch it instead of the original launcher, at least it works with Fallout 3.

download SKSE... Then it should be on your destop saying "Skyrim (SKSE)"

I did not have to do that with mine?
Download and install SKSE (duh).
Rename Skyrim's excutable ("tesv.exe") to "Skyrim.exe"
Rename SKSE's executable to "tesv.exe"
Now go into Skyrim's Data folder and create a new folder, call it "SKSE".
Now create an ini file in the folder, call this "skse.ini"
Now in that file, paste the following and save it.
[Loader] RuntimeName=Skyrim.exe

Now when you launch Skyrim, it will run with SKSE enabled and still work like a regular steam game!

Edit: I should clarify that this method will still initially launch the regular Skyrim launcher, but when you click play the game will load via SKSE.

that's not the best idea , it can cause you a lot of grief , just make a shortcut for the "skse_loader.exe' on your desktop , and give it admin cred , you will also then be able to run the game and download through steam at the same time , just make sure steam is running before you use the skse_loader.exe

Under the 'games' tab is option to add non steam game - just use that to add Skyrim SKSE and it works fine, still keeps tabs on your time played and achievements etc....

I did not have to do any of this to get mine to run though steam, I just downloaded it and it launched thorugh steam right away.??

This will not always work, if you have for example RealVision ENB, launching from skse_loader.exe will indeed laucnh the game but in Steam you won't be showing as playing Skyrim

The easiest solution in this case is

  • Rename SkyrimLauncher.exe to SkyrimLauncherOriginal.exe
  • Duplicate skse_loader.exe and rename the skse_loader(Copy).exe to SkyrimLauncher.exe

That way you status is correctly showing as playing Skyrim + nice way to get ride of the Launcher + skse and realvision compatible + no shortcuts required you can hit Play in Steam.

Just download SKSE and then use Wrye Bash to launch. Added bonus of changing the mod order with BOSS and making your game more stable to boot.

I have apparently done something in the .ini files to make it launch skyrim.exe, but i dont know how to change it to the copy you told me to make :/
