Bleak Falls Barrow - The point of no return
This is just a quick question for all those experienced tomb raiders out there.

I've watched the playthrough videos so I know all about the dangers that lurch within this barrow, but i actually have a more mundane question to ask which isn't obvious from the these video's.

Is there a 'point of no return' in this location?

By that I mean is there a point during the exploration of this barrow, where it is no longer possible to back track and get back out the way you came in.

The reason I ask is that my character is basically looting this barrow, but because he only has a limited encumberance being a Nord, he can only carry just over 400lbs (even wearing his backpack.) So, he's having to make multiple trips, clearing a bit more of the Barrow on each visit.

If only those carts in the village could be hired he wouldn't have this problem, or better still if you could hire a mule. (hint! hint!).

But anyway, he has cleared as far as the spider cave where The Golden Claw quests kicks off, and I wondered if anyone knows whether having triggered it he is going to be forced to carry on forward or whether he can still go back if I want him to.

Pretty sure you will be able to go back.
after you beat the main guy when you get the stone and learn the first word there is this little drop off that you can't go back up but if you wanna go through the borrow you can just go to the main entry.

Fun thing with Skyrim, you can pretty much drop out of any quest at any time, either by backtracking through the ruin/barrow/dungeon, or just running off into the wilds. NPCs involved will usually just wait patiently at the alloted spot until you decide to continue the quest, or the quest marker will still just be there waiting for you. There's the odd exception where you might get 'locked in' to a section of the dungeon but that's usually momentary.

you can go back in Bleakfalls barrow once you get the dragonstone, that's the best time to loot.

You can pick up a follower, and have them carry your swag, or there is a mod, the name escapes me but it is something like "Dovhabit" That provides a rabbit, no joke, that acts as a mule.

What are you looting to fill 400lbs multiple times?! :P

This is a mod that puts Goonie, a summonable merchant, into your game. just use her ring and she'll pop up whenever you need to offload some goods. Legitimate, or stolen even. ;)

This game goes so easy with tracking and unalloted missions it's not even hard. You're unable to rescue the poor dunmer bandit that still tries to run with only alternative options to get back the claw is to kill him ( or let him kill himself blade first :] ). Pick up followers that'll handle well in combat and good pack mules, early in game Faendal can give you free archery training as one of the first followers and can carry quite a bit of equipment.

I'm not picking up 400lbs of loot. I think my default equipment weight is somewhere around 210lbs. So thats, weapons, armour, food and drink., so I'm picking up about another 200lbs of loot on each trip.

I find that is usually enough for me to strip two or three corpses of equipment and weapons, and add a few extra bits and bobs, like rats tails, the odd gem stone or two and a few bags of gold.

Thanks, but whilst I can see that would solve the problem it would also sort of ruin the immersion of the game. If I was going to do that then i might as well just uninstal the character mod that limits my encumberance.

I totally understand. :) I should probably get rid of her myself, but... Slippery slope... >.> Got all these new mods recently for immersion's sake... then there's Goonie. Even if she has some new stuff that makes her more lore-friendly, like you said... it still takes away from it overall.

I only take potions, soul gems coin and anything that worth a bit of coin, rubish items I leave behind, waste of time.

I don't think I could fill that just from the Barrow, is'all. :3

I personally only loot things that are worth 10 times their weight, otherwise you end up with half your inventory that's hardly worth anything. And given most common items that don't overcome that threshhold are weapons and some armor items, it saves a fair amount of space and time, while maintaining a decent wage once you sell the stuff.

If you must loot every single item to sell, you would probably be best clearing the dungeon first then going in butt naked, or wearing clothing if you're into a bit more RP, and using that extra 210lbs for loot.

And you could make use of the Steed Stone to increase your carry capacity. :3

you could just loot the good stuff.

Then you have more time to search other places for more good stuff instead of setting up a camp to strip one dungeon of all its iron armor and weapons that noone really wants ;)

Also, this is Skyrims natural iron cycle. Its mined from caves, melted into bars, sold to a city with a smith, sold to merchants. And eventually one guy wears it while visiting a cave, then he dies in it and then everyone lets the iron rot in the cave until its reabsorbed into the mountain!
