Saving Malborn and other guy from Frost Troll

Hello everyone. In the dungeon i saved Malborn and the other guy, so i'm now in the Reeking Cave with the Frost Troll. I want to keep Malborn and the guy alive, but they always jump from the cliff to attack the troll which results in them being killed. Anyone knows how i can prevent them from jumping to the troll?

If Malborn hadn't escalated off the cliff before you did- your best bet is to draw it's attention by jumping off the ledge first before it gets averted or Malborn decides to play Hero (no wep Lol) and get's himself killed. Set his essential though of course with the console keeps him well enough alive, only knocked down, if he's already over the cliff.

I've played through this about 7 times with different characters and I've only been able to save those two idiots once. I did it by sprinting ahead of them and engaging the troll before thaye get there. I fired at it with arrows and backed up into his lair so it would follow me while they ran for the exit. However, when I got out one died by running into some bandits and a pack of wolves got the other one. Damned if I save those two again. Next time I'll save my arrows and let the troll get em.

Yeah, they're not esential to the game, don't worry about it. They always die for me too, if the Troll doesn't get 'em the Necromancer will. Or we always run into Thalmor Justiciars.

You'd think since they have no weapons and no armour you'd think they wouldn't rush headlong to attack an enemy. But no. Suicidal is what they are.

Thank you all for helping me, but i found another way! The moment you get in the cave, rush to the 'To Skyrim' exit. When you get out, normally Malborn and the guy should do too. If you want to kill the troll, just wait until they are gone and return to the cave :)
