Fort Greymoor: impossible to get "cleared"?
Fort Greymoor, which is just West of Whiterun, seems impossible to get "cleared." Killed everyone in and around this fort, collected every piece of special loot, yet the location never gets marked "cleared."

Walked by it 2 game-days later and it was completely infested with Bandits again.

Is it just another bandit location that respawns frequently, so I should just ignore it from now on?

I've noticed this as well.

I know the location is used for a Dark Brotherhood quest but I don't know if it becomes "clear" after you complete that.

Bugs

Sometimes after fully clearing out the fort, the unnamed bandits will still respawn instead of Imperial soldiers.

It is associated with a Dark Brotherhood Quest, maybe that will clear it but most, if not all, locations respawn even if they are cleared. Cleared, I think, refers to the fact you have "cleared" it as part of a quest.

The fort cannot be cleared! There is also a bug that will sometimes cause bandits to respawn instead of imperial soldiers. Heres the wiki page for the fort; http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fort_Greymoor

However, this does not affect to "Cleared" tag to appear. Bandit camps will respawn, but they still keep "Cleared" status once done so.

I have seen that the bosses are hard to kill. I was hoping it meant it would be my fort once cleared :/.. I am a mage, so the female bandit boss at the end kills me in two hits. Need to leave, and get more strength as well as potions galore.

Stealthy Archery attack with Sneak Attack perk(s) is the best way to defeat most bosses in this game.

Ample use of poisons that Slow or Paralyze are very useful during your character's lower levels. Either buy or make the poisons (builds your Alchemy skill) and remember to apply the poison to the arrow before each shot.

Once the enemy is slowed or paralyzed, just wail on her until she's dead or yields yelling "You've bested me! I submit!" then give her the coo-de-gra (sp?) death blow.

If you are lucky enough to get a bow with a paralyze enchantment (or make your own), you can make short work of many of the tougher bosses. Paralyze doesn't seem to work on high-level Drauger and Dragons and Dragon Priests.

OK, somewhat of a cowardly method I use, but, eh... it's just a game and I want to live through the tougher baddie battle so I can continue moving forward with the story/game.

It's "coup de grace" -- French for "blow of mercy." ;) Good advice on the stealth archery. And glad to know Fort Greymoor cannot be cleared, it was driving me nuts!

Calm spells work well for me if I don't use Frenzy even on the bandit bosses. I don't know if you need points in dual casting and otherwise for it to work as well (I tend to use it more at higher level) but you might give it a try if you need time to recharge and gain distance.

The fort is bit buged. I managed to get it cleard, you need to find a heavy armored bandit leader (women), but the problem is when replaying I can't find her myself.

She was in some kinda "headquarters" Black Women because my levels where bit higher she was holding dwarven shield. The first time I got to her was from the roof. When just checking out I couldn't find that place, I'm sure that theres an entrence in the castle itself because in my first playthrough I left her place thru it. If I remember correctly somewhere near the prison, might not be. Sorry thats everything hope everyone else has better luck.

Forts from the civil war questline don't have bosses, and so, cannot be Cleared. Unless some mod was adding extra boss NPCs, you won't have it. Even if you have it with mods, the respawn mechanism is specific to civil war forts and I doubt it respects the "Cleared" tag. Fort Greymoor is also part of the civil war, just the fort battle is cut in Whiterun hold.
