would make the game too complicated.

Too many brains would explode. Simpler if everyone wears onesies

Or go back to the morrowind where you had seperate armour for left/right/arms/hands/legs/feet etc. Could make some awesome armour variations.

While the game engines are getting better, its seems with every new elder scrolls game, the character customisation is getting simpler and simpler. (I wish I had my character from morrowind. In those says you could fly like superman(levitate), leap like the hulk (acrobatics could be leveled insanely) and run like the flash (boots of blinding speed),

The same thing happened with clothing and armour, much less choices, also far less unique items, this was the fun thing about some of the dungeons in morrowind, and occassionally why I would do some dungeons in oblivion. (Chrysamere is just one example).

It's NOT about dumbing down! It's a technical problem What worked with Morrowind with primitive segmented bodies does not work with Skryim and flexible bodies. Getting a cuirass from one set of armor to work with greaves from another set IS A HARD PROBLEM. You're either going to have clipping problems (wear any non-college boots with the college robes to see what I mean), or you have to design them that they can all work with all possible combinations. Oblivion tried the latter approach and ended up with half the clothing being "outfilts" that combined the two anyway, and many armor pieces as well.

One solution other games have made, is to simply hide the greaves (or even boots and gauntlets) when wearing a non-matching cuirass. Without "vanity" or "cosmetic" armor, that's going to cause just as much angst as the lack of greaves.

So it would make our brains explode then?

I rest my case

No, it's just that people who choose to hate Skryim will find a reason to hate it.

Eh true, but I don't think OP hates Skyrim in this case he's just bringing forward something he either has questions on or just disapproves of which does not mean he dislikes the game overall

If you are on pc some of the armor mods have greaves and pauldrons with seperate slots to equip them.

So if the clipping issue is already in the game, what difference will it make to those who want to have seperate items on different parts of the body. As you point out they already allow you to change your cuirass/head gear/hands/boots, we are just saying it would have been nice to increase the options a little, and not all combinations cause clipping but yes some do, but so what? I play in first person mode, so the clipping issues really do not affect me or others who play in first person. Also even little things like wearing more than one ring etc.

Its not a techincal issue at all. Its just the direction they chose to take the game, mods prove this as most of the issues can be solved by installing one.

On a side note I am sure the op does not hate skyrim and I certainly do not (have over 800 hours in it) We are just discussing that it would have been nice if the orignal game did a little more without needing mods.

Certainly from my point of view I feel that with each new release, they simplify the game slightly. Its not just armour, its all sorts of things like stats, magic etc,
