Savegame Error : Its version is 0 and the current version is 9.

First of all i must say it; I cant speak english but i will try to explain you..

Im playing skyrim for a long time and i formatted my computer yesterday. Then reinstall game but i cant play my old saves. When i try to load old save its warning : The savegame cannot be loaded because it is outdated. Its version is 0 and the current version is 9.

What can i do ? Help me pls.

Try starting a new game, then after the carriage scene try loading your previous saves from the pause menu. Doesn't always work but worth a try.

Little bit of research seems this indicates your saves are corrupted or you possible have conflicting mods.

Disable all mods if you have any and try again.

If it doesn't help or you have no mods, you may also want to try restoring the folder your saves are in to a previous state:
Back up the files first however, just incase.

Edit: People also had luck by simply using the Load on the menu, rather than Continue so try that too. :3

You can try the Previous Versions trick if you have System Restore turned on for your machine.

Go to My Documents/My Games/Skyrim and right click on your Saves folder and click on Restore Previous Versions... It should bring up a window with several copies of your Saves folder from different dates. Make a copy of your folder from a date before it got corrupted and replace your bad saves.

If this does not work then you can check your Saves folder for the back ups of your last few auto and quick save. Sky automatically backs these up in a .bak file.

quicksave.ess.bak
autosave1.ess.bak
autosave2.ess.bak

Look for files like these and if you want go ahead and make a copy of them or put them in a zip file to back them up but then go ahead and rename them and remove the .bak so the game recognizes them. If the Save folder already contains corrupted auto/quick saves you will need to delete these before renaming the .bak files to avoid conflicts.

quicksave.ess.bak -> quicksave.ess

It happened t me after my pc shut off during a power outtage, so maybe the safegame is broken or something. try loading a previous auto safe

This topic is over a year old, so, i'm sure everything is sorted by now.

It was one year , but I still could not open my backup files :) Now it does not matter, I started a new game and I came to a better place my old backup :) Thank you for your attention

I have found the cure of this and I too have had problems( and sorry its a year late but im sure you would always want your character back ya know. All you have to do is go to the savegame.dat file and right click it, go to restore previous versions, then choose notepad as the opening software.

If the save is that old, it would be easier just to restart.

@Spagetti if your save version and game current version does not match, you cant play save game. You must install same version.

get the savegame.dat from super hacking the files, i used and xbox 360 mod program called horizon, get the savegame.dat and then get it to the save folder and then rename it .ess that's how i solved the problem when i got the same error when transfering save from 360 to pc

for quicksave:

all you have to do is delete quicksave.ess, quicksave.ess.bak, quicksave.skse in C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves and it will be fixed if you use quicksave again

people help!!!I was faced with the same problem tried everything I could but nothing helped.I play the pirates but I write here because Cho are more likely to respond. I reinstalled the game a few times but it didn't help.
