Ash Pile won't go away!
I killed a bad dude in my house and the ash pile is up 1 of the stairs and not only can't I 'open' it - it never goes away. No problem but it bugs me!! Also 1 in Riften on the path which won't go away & has been there for months. Anything I can do?

And then immediately type 'markfordelete'

Disable simply makes it invisible and incorporeal - you can't see or interact with it but it still is loaded when the cell loads.

Mark for delete will get rid of it at the next cell refresh.

sometimes a man's ten-second typing makes another man's hours-long pain disappear. thanks
Unofficial Skyrim Patch takes care of ashpiles. Bethesda was too incompetent to do it themselves.
The unoffical patches are essential and are really the first things everyone should be downloading after installing the game...

The way the world gets "cleaned up" involves waiting a certain amount of time after you last visited a given area, and then the game "forgets" certain changes to the landscape that occurred when you were nearby - eg corpses and whatnot.

Depending on the location, the time you have to stay away for (continuously) can be up to 30 in-game days.

Or you could just go into console, click on the interactible item and use the disable command.
As others have said. It's much easier than waiting for the effect to disappear.

EDIT: Which, of course, doesn't work on ash piles. Great.

honestly even when i was using USKP some piles still remain
especaily from scripted events like mage duel , cultist assassination , vampire attacks
if you desintegrate them sometiems ash piles never dissapear

it works you just need to be sure you targeted the pile not some invisible background thing
i accidently deleted the floor once because i couldnt target the ash pile
