Is Lydia meant as a mage?

I gave Lydia a staff because my bag is full, and well... I met a dragon and look at that dmg she is doing!!

So I had to save the day but still.

Lydia basically rather use a staff than a bow?

Never knew that, and is that the same for all followers? I always assumed she was a tank, thats why I always get a shield+sword+ great bow.

Every since that dragon fight, she doesnt go back to a shield anymore, she runs with a sword+staff.

Thats crazy! I've given followers staffs to carry and never had them dish the pain like that! Gonna have to try it again!

lydia is awesome but she got in my way alought like im fighing these group of bandits and she is like a trool come right in front of and my swing either kills her or wounds her she always dieing

I havnt changed any difficulty since the game started, I assume the game (I have skyrim legendary edition) start on normal?

Well, I dont wanna mix with the settings until I finished it, and the DLC - to see how its meant to be played.
Otherwise you have to play in a weird way, and exploit diffrent weapons/tactics and not play as you "should".

Hmm, I think I will go into creation kit and look up her stats and class for her actor ID....see what default starting points she has for the magicka skills..

Playing on Legendary diff. Lydia doesn't want to touch any magic items I give her (with the exception of a heavy armour I gave her once)

Which staff did you give her, exactly?

Don't forget, she pledge her life to protect you, so that is the reason she step infront of you to take the hits. When she does, back off and when she goes down step in and finish the job or you can heal her while she is dishing out punishment. If she attack everyone as mentioned or do some strange things it's most likely due to a MOD effect
