Camera broken, only zooms to extremes.
Basically what the title says, my camera (mouse wheel) no longer allows me to zoom to any position between the two extremes of first person or all the way zoomed out third person. The wheel also doesn't engage any action until I have turned it for quite awhile, then it starts to zoom and doesnt stop until its reach one side or the other.

That said, I was messing around with camera commands the other day but I made sure to default the ones that don't reset like fov. This I imagine, is probably a case of me forgetting about some other command that I didn't default but I'm at a loss at what it could be.

Having the same problem, and I don't mess with console commands. Does anyone know about this, and more importantly how to fix it?
New info. Hitting F in first person has no effect, but doing it in third person will zoom into first person, and then quickly scrolls back out to maximum zoom third person.

Matthias, that sounds exactly like what I was experiencing too. I also noticed a bunch of other weird behavior related to the scroll wheel. For example, going into options in menu, the screen would scroll by itself really fast.

Long story short, I got this resolved by turning off mouse acceleration in the SkyrimPrefs.ini which is located in Documents/My Games/Skyrim. The actual line is (0 is off):
bMouseAcceleration=0

If I do that, will I be able to scroll it back to where I want it?

Yea, should function just fine if this is indeed the issue. If not, you can always easily turn it back on by changing it back to 1.
No dice, it's still happening. Some other issues that seem to be connected are the skill trees scrolling like nuts and the mouse not being able to select options on the pause menu.
The screwed up mouse controls seem to be overriding the keyboard controls.
It seems like the mouse is constantly trying to scroll down... wait a minute.

Yea I was having those same issues. I mentioned it above. Although for me disabling mouse acceleration fixed it. If that didn't help, no idea what's wrong.
I think I know what's causing the issue. Whenever I use the touchpad to scroll, it won't stop. I can scroll up, which puts me in first person and won't let me leave, or scroll down, which maxes out the third person and bounces it back whenever I try to fix it. F worked fine after I turned the computer off. So, my new solution is to start a new game, save regularly, and if I accidentally scroll in or out like that, turn off the computer and reboot to an earlier save. Either that or see if there's a way to disable the touchpad scrolling alltogether, which would be more useful.

Anyone figure this out?

I think Might of found a solution to this lil delemma, try saving the game while the camera is zooming in or out, close the game, reload it and load the save and the camera should scroll in and out on interval, not sure if reliable, need someone to test this to confirm.

I have this problem just now. I able to fix it.
Press Numpad 3 which will make free camera. Then quicksave the game. Quickoad the game. Press Numpad 3 again which will zoom to your character again. Then I'm able to use scroll zoom and F button. Hope this will work on others.

can't believe how damn easy it was for me to fix... i switched to my other hard drive os from my win 7 to my win 10 and it started happening.. nothing else was changed no mods or settings. turns out mouse smoothing ♥♥♥♥♥ with mouse scrolling in skyrim

AKA:
infinite or all the way scrolling or zooming
&
all speech menus way over scrolling

easy fix just look in your mouse settings for smooth scrolling

I have the same thing and I use Win7, but I think it might have started with new mouse driver install. I went into mouse settings and turned the scroll speed down to minimum and that helped.

I will check the smooth scrolling that was mentioned. ... No joy, my driver does not have that switch.

One other possible fix: Use a mouse with no scroll wheel ! I originally played Skyrim that way.
