Confused about Alvor
I pickpocketed Alvor once (because for some reason I like getting keys to people's houses) and while I was in completely different part of the map I came out of a cave and two mercenaries were there to kill, I know it was from him because there was a note that had his name on it, and when I went to go talk to him he acted like he doesn't know anything. Is this supposed to happen?

The game does sometimes throw random events at you, like hired thugs after a theft. The event simply tried to add depth by indicating it was because your theft from Alvor, but Alvor the NPC isn't affected by the event.

Yes, I found Alvor dead from a dragon or vampire attack. I helped myself to his iron and steel ingots, they did have the red "steal" warning, but he wasn't going to need them any more. The thugs came after me with the same note. Alvor took a contract out on me from beyond the grave.

I once stole ingredients from that one Witch who lives in the hut near Riverwood, and for some bloody reason, the Hired Thugs that tried to kill me had a note that was signed by the Hagraven, Moira, from the "A Night To Remember" quest.
Just, what? How'd she know? Why'd she care?

I've had that happen to me before. I've killed people before several times, and then I took red marked items, and those thugs showed up. One time the note being carried just said "Bandit".

Surgi, I think it's because Moira was the sister Anise (the witch) referred to in her note in Anise's basement. I got the same note myself when I did the same thing - Thugs showed up who were sent by Moira.

That actually..makes a lot of sense. I wonder if I can look into this more.

when you steal stuff without sneaking people sometimes send thugs after you. has happened to me a couple times, even if no one is around or in view of the item

Happened to me too (well I stole the ingots). The note was signed "Dorthe".

(Dorthe is Alvor's 6-year-old-or-so daughter BTW)
