Is bound sword viable for the entire game?
I have a mod that keeps it around permanent like, you just "invest" a chunck of magicka and can keep it going.

The character concept I came up with and wanna try is a Shadow Warrior thing, blah blah, does bound sword keep up in damage with the other weapons, or is it pointless to use long term?

If I remember correctly, it's a Spell Tome, so it should be there permanently if you read that book. If it's a scroll, it's a one-time deal.

yes, with the mystic binding perk it is just as strong as a daedric sword.

Considered on my character's dual sword I probably do 20-x the dmg compared to what a bound sword does alone with a stand-alone attack. It's not neglectable if you play on a lower difficulty however playing Legendary mode theres a significantly lower margin to do much hit point dmg to even a murauder due to how vanilla spell's don't scale well enough to be as in turn effectively compared to what a fully tempered/enchanted wep can do. So imo it's feel's worthless to play with an oblivion warrior build if you want to dish alot of damage.

Yeah, I have the spell, but in vanilla Skyrim it only lasts for like 30 seconds. The mod I have allows it to stay as long as you'd like, but you give up a certain % of your magicka to keep it around.

EDIT

So, it's pointless? I play on adept for this run.

Bound Swords are fine on adept.

Alrighty. Thanks everyone... It's more for RP reasons, but at the same time I didn't want to pour points into one-handed *and* conjuration, I figured that'd water down my character to much or something.

Just remember the leg work, when fighting with a sword.

My own thief practises a weird sword acrobatics around targets, trying not to get hit while wearing down the target. My previous mage character had a similar style with bound sword, but needed a follower to occasionally take a heat of, until I got access to invisibility spell. (Expert level difficulty.)

Really this character is sorta based off of Geralt from the Witcher series, but with some sneaky stuff thrown in. So what you mentioned sounds pretty good and fun.

heh, in morrowind i started going out unarmed and without armor (clothes only). the clothing itself was enchanted in various beneficial ways i can't remember, but i also kept a variety of rings and amulets etc that had permanent effects like bound sword, bound armor etc. kinda like the assassins in the intro to oblivion.

so i just walked around in ordinary clothes and then pulled out different rings and amulets as needed to deal with any situation :B1:

You can't enchant a bound sword, but on the other hand it's weightless.

bound swords still do damage based on one handed
DTACBLF Dec 15, 2013 @ 5:29pm
Wait, the bound sword does benefit from the one handed skill? I thought it didn't. Does it level that skill up?

I have no idea what other mods you run with but you might want to consider a mod that allows for bound weapon damage to scale. Check some of the general scaling mods available as I think I remember a few allowing your conjuration skill to increase the damage of the bound weapon. Sorry I can't name a specific mod!

I think Invested Magic, the mod I use, does make everything scale. I don't remember though, I should check on that.

Bound weapons are really good with the Mystic Binding perk. I play on Legendary and use a Bound Bow as my primary weapon. And yes bound weapons benefit from the appropriate skill tree - they get all the bonuses and you can do sneak attacks with them and anything you enchant on your armor that boosts their damage works with them and all that stuff.
