console command to change character appearance?

Use showracemenu, but save your game first just in case, as using this to change your race will result in your stats resetting. Using it to just change hair and facial appearance and such shouldn't cause any issue, but save nonetheless.

Showracemenu is superior since it allows you to change race, sex, and name if necessary.

AFAIK thats only if he has DawnGuard (or is it DragonBorn?)

if your desperate and want to use a mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20394/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D20394%26preview%3D&pUp=1

though you would need to make an account at Nexus to download it and that is free (95% of my mods are from there and i find it a heck of alot better than the workshop)

the mod above does the same as the showracemenu command...BUT it keeps everything the way you had it before hand

Oh good grief, I missed that comment - yeah, do NOT change your character's race/sex, showracemenu is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeasonably safe for simply cosmetic changes (though the Face Sculptor is still far safer) so long as you save before use and check your stats are okay after, but changing race/sex will screw things right up.

You won't have problems if you change your character's sex, I did it once and I haven't had any problem with my stats. However, if you want to change race It's better that you use the player.setrace x command (where x is the race id) and then use showracemenu to change the appearance:

Yes, and will completely mess up your stats.

Use tgm beforehand and it should be safe. I haven't tried it personally, but that's what the guides I've seen have said.

you can't tell me theres a way to manualy change to a hairstyle not convetionaly found for that race.

race menu only allows for hair of that race and there are ids for litteraly everthing so there is or at the vary least should be a way.
