Skyrim Won't launch Now That I've Subscribed to Mods
So i've played nearly 100 hours of vanilla skyrim, and i've decided i want to start using mods. I installed about 15 mods, most of which add vampire related stuff. when i launched skyrim, the little menu appeared (the one with the dovahkiin standing on a cliff, looking at the black and white landscape). I waited until the text at the bottom said it installed all the mods, then clicked play. a window appeared asking if i wanted to allow skyrim to modify my computer. of course, i clicked yes. then the steam window popped up saying "preparing to launch the elder scrolls: skyrim..." and then the first menu popped up again. I keep clicking play, and witing for the mods to update, and checking the install order, and uninstalling some, but i'm just trapped in this cycle. please help?

I have the same problem. I've tried deleting everything and redownloading and it still does the same thing :(

Use the Nexus Mod Manager to load your mods. Otherwise, double check all the mods you are using are up to date. If that doesn't help, check the integrity of the game cache and try again.

If THAT doesn't help, wipe out all the mods from your game, uninstall it, and reinstall it clean. Then, once the game loads as usual, use the NMM to download your mods again and let that program install them in their proper place (for easy uninstallation if problems arise in the future) and play.

Also use LOOT.

Use Loot. Also it helps if read mod's description(compatibility and requirements), mb you need compatibility patch for some of installed mods

Why don't you read Help and Tips top of forum page, all the answers are there.
Basic needs for your game and a must
LOOT
Unofficial patches
Read what the mod you are installing its requirement to make it work as it should.
This is not Game Load Order but Mod load order they are two seperate issues and must be approached two ways.
LOOT will sort game load order and give you messages, warnings and errors on your mods which is pointing to mod load order.
Mod load order is the way mods are installed and interduced into the game. Some mods require or use MCM that is through SKSE (third party launcher), or may require other ESMs or ESPs to work as they should. They may need to be loaded after or before other certain mods.
One of the common errors is - missing master file, which the error is telling you that and ESM is required for this or that mod to work.

Argle-bargle - this is why I hate people who keep wanting Workshop for New Vegas.

As Kelvy said - you have a mod conflict. Either a mod is screwing another over, fatally, or you're missing a required Master (another plugin which has resources *that* plugin is dependent on).

You need to go back to each mod and *carefully* read the install instructions and requirements and look to see if there's any listed info on incompatibities. Several of the most popular vampire mods need compatibility patches to work together and need to be loaded in a specific order relative to each other to work properly.

People. If u use mods first learn how to properly install and clean ur mods and how to use some software that is needed for modding. Programs like TESV edit, BOSS, Wryebash. To learn how to mod you should go check Gophers videos from youtube and google things out. Use nexus website for downloading and installing mods with nexus mod manager. Clean ur mods with tesv edit. Arrange ur modlist with BOSS. Create bashed patches with wryebash. Learn about ENB mods and how to tweak your game to make crashes minimal and the game AWESOME. Check out my screenshots for example. Here are some basic things to know: http://itcprosolutions.com/skyrimguides/tweak_guide.htm

Just to get you started. If you know how to read english, its just a matter of 1 or few days, maximum a week that u can comprehend everything necessary for modding. Once again, Gophers skyrim videos on youtube are a great source of information for total newbs.
Cheers happy modding, I strongly recommend using mods, vanilla skyrim is total crap in comparison for the experience I have had so far with my latest mod setup including 130 mods, with Requiem overhaul being the base.

Oh and, also official skyrim patchs for example are full of dirty ♥♥♥♥ that must be cleaned with tesv edit or they add a considerable crash potential to the game, as do all dirty edits in mods and gamefiles. Nexus mods. Gopher. Remember.

Wrong, dirty edits are there through DLCs from Beth themselves to make them work with main game. You only clean DLCs when mods add more to the list and those mods that require it.
Unofficial patches are not cleaned and do not have to be, next time take note of what requires cleaning, none of the unofficial patches need it. Unless another modder has added some type of patch (again make sure before installing by reading descriptions).

ditto what others have mentioned regarding cleaning mods, but see...

also, BOSS was replaced by LOOT (same developers, just a new and improved way to do it).

Only install one mod at a time, then test it to make sure it is working. Then install the next.
The unofficial patches do not need to be cleaned with TES5EDIT. I've been using them as is and don't have any issues at all.
The game itself has poor programming. If you start lagging and stuttering, make a new separate save, then exit the game and close Steam to get rid of the memory leaks which bloat the steamwebhelper.exe. I was just playing Skyrim for a number of hours, and one of the steamwebhelper.exe files that is running is over 1 gig at the moment. Bethesda games just cause memory leaks. It's a fact of life.
I can peruse community forums for hours with no problems, but run a Bethesda game for a little while and the steamwebhelper.exe bloats out.

Well I have cleaned all my mods including unofficial patches etc excluding the lines in TESV5 that specifically note that "DO NOT CLEAN THIS DIRTY EDIT" or mods/patches that clearly say in mod description that it shouldnt be cleaned with TESV5. I have 130 (or a bit more) mods installed with Requiem overhaul as the base and running smooth with ENB. Best skyrim experience so far ;)

So you went from vanilla skyrim to 'let me install 15 mods what could possibly go wrong'
Next time, try installing one- see if it works, see if you're competent at it.
AirsickLowlander Jan 6, 2015 @ 10:41pm
Hey man if you ever figure out a way to fix this issue I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what you did to fix it. I've tried everything suggested in this thread and others and I can't get mine to work. If you do I'll gift you something :D

Just use LOOT fixes the game load order and then it gives messages, warnings and errors about your game. Sometimes not prefect but it is the best program at the moment.
Unofficial patches mention are pinned at top of forum page and the most used in the game.
Now for your mods, do you understand Mod Load Order this is the method that mods are installed into the game and has nothing to do with LOOT 'game load order'.
Thats why you must read modders descriptions as they will state if master files are required(ESMs or ESPs) these are a must to get mod to work. Also whether mod/mods need to be installed before or after other mods etc.
Also take note if INI files need to be changed.
A quick way to see what a mod requires in master files or other files loaded before them, is in NMM plugin page, r/click on mod and it will list required masters.
