Skyrim Crashing on Start up (when I press play)
I just bought Skyrim yesterday and whenever I press play on the start up screen nothing happens it just exits and Skyrim never starts. I have no mods installed, like I said I just bought it yesterday and it never has worked since I bought it. The same problem happens with Fallout New Vegas (it crashes on the start up screen when I press play). Fallout worked when I first bought it but it randomly stopped and I had no mods on that game either. My computer is definitely able to run the games because my computer's specs are way higher than the recommended specs. Please help I am extremely frustrated that a game I just bought and did nothing to mess it up wont work because I paid money for something that doesn't work at all!

Thanks in Advance!

I had a similar problem. Eventhough Skyrim is far from new, when I updated my video drivers and rebooted everything worked fine afterwards. Are your drivers up to date?

I'm sorry to hear that :( I hope someone else will see this and help you, I'm not sure what to do next, wish I could provide more assistance.

Making sure I am getting this right,

- Launched Skyrim via Steam
- You pressed "Play" in the Skyrim Launcher
- You never even get to the Betty logo. Skyrim immediately closes after you press Play.
- The same goes with other Betty games such as F NV. Open launcher, press play then immediate crash.

Am I right so far?

No error messages? Well at the top of my head you could;

- Verify cache. To do this go to your Library, right-click Skyrim and click Properties. Under the Local Files tab click "verify integrity"
- Reinstall the game

No error messages at all its really strange. Ive verified my cache multiple times and reinstalled it multiple times also. If i reinstall does it get rid of all my skyrim files? if theres something that doesnt change when I reinstall could that possibly be the problem? If so, how can I clear all of the files. Because reinstalling should fix the problem shouldnt it... obviously something that is causing the problem isnt going away.

I'm basically giving you the less invasive solutions because honestly, I'm quite baffled by this. I would suggest that you wait for our more experienced forum members to take a look at this.

well thanks for trying. Im quite baffled too. I've seen other people with the same problem and they either end up fixing it in a different way that doesnt work for everyone else with the problem or they dont resolve it at all.

You haven't stated whether you have the LE edition or basic Skyrim. If you have the LE just check in the launcher Data Files and make sure your DLC's are in the order Dawnguard, Hearthfires then Dragonborn.

Error code 80 or application load error P:0000065432

I was actually playing when the game just froze and later - no response.. :/

ok so I tried running the game as administrator and that didnt fix it. Then I tried to run it in compatability mode with windows 8 (which is what I have). When I do that I get a pop up window called "program compatibility troubleshooter" and it says that my launcher for skyrim (the TESV file) is incompatible. Anyone know how I can fix this? I think im getting closer to what the problem is

After pressing play, nothing would happen. Here's my solution in case anyone else finds this thread.

This worked for me:

I'm always messing around with Windows and I occasionally break it. This time I uninstalled some components Skyrim needed to play. I wasn't sure which version was missing but thankfully there are recovery files in the Skyrim folder!

1. Go to your game folder. On my computer that's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim
2. Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime 2010. In VCRedist folder, run vcredist_x86.exe.
3. Reinstall Microsoft ASP .NET MVC 4 Runtime. In DotNetFX folder, run dotnetfx35setup.exe.
4. Make sure your DirectX is up to date by running DXSETUP.exe in the DirectX10 folder.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Game on!

My computer crashed one day and got a critical error, so I reinstalled windows and wiped my computer. Game suddenly works after the wipe. huh? not sure why.
