Please help (another Delvin Glitch)
I found the Dwemer Cube at some point or other, and while it was listed in my log, the icon for Delvin never came up when I tagged it, and instead of just reading the description, I'd move on to another tagged mission on the map. At some point though, I completed Hard Answers, and I looted the Eyes of Falmer off of Mercer Frey. Now, as you can see, I have both of those items in my quest log to be returned to Delvin. He won't engage me in discussion though. He tells me he's got a special job for me, tells me the guild has been looking good, and hits on Vex when I try to talk to him. He doesn't take either of the items though. Vex won't give me any more jobs, and I can't progress in this long questline. Does anyone have any idea how I might fix this? I was able to find out how to use console commands to end both of those quests, but Delvin still responds the same afterward, and neither him or Vex will give me more work.

*bump* please, anyone. I've put SO much time into this game, and completing the Thieves Guild content was one of the things I wanted to do most before moving onto all of the proper story missions. I'm completely stuck atm.

Hmm odd, those 2 items should not be the cause of them not giving you any more work, im quite sure they are, or atleast should not be related to the job offers.

Special missions are city influence missions, gained after completing 5 extra jobs to Solitude, Windhelm, Whiterun or Markarth.

Neither of Vex or Delvin will give you any jobs, or claim any larceny targets, while special jobs are active. It did not come apparent from your notes if you had already finished the job, or if Delvin had assigned you it properly.

Im kinda stuggling between 2 solution here atm, the one being console commands[elderscrolls.wikia.com] SetStage to be more specific.

But since there initially not supposed to be related to jobs im also leaning to saying use this[www.nexusmods.com]. But the clearner does tend to clean a bit more then you might initially want it to clean.

The first would be the most save solution, but im not sure how it will turn out to work, it might complete the quests but still keep the jobs bugged out (aka the special job glitched out and wont show at all to unlock the jobs).

What is wrong with actually completing the mission, instead of resorting to console or mods?
Because so far this haven't sounded as a bug, but just a slight oversight from player's part.

Of course I might have understood wrong.

When I choose "I'm ready for some extra work" in the Vex dialogue, she tells me to finish Delvin's quest first. The quote is:

"I think you should finish that special assignment Delvin gave you. Then we'll talk.

I don't think Delvin gave me either of these, I believe I just found both items (the cube and the eye) on their own, and my mission marker is telling me to return them to him.

I read up on the various glitches involved with the larceny quests, and I tried to use the console (I've never really messed with it before this except to clear another glitched mission) to just close out the Delvin missions. It seemed to work for the cube, as the item was removed from my inventory, the quest removed from my list, and money give. Same with the eye when I tried that. After that though, Delvin still wouldn't engage me in conversation. He just kept saying the same thing about having a special job request in. So I reverted to the old save.

I don't know, I'm totally stumped as to how to get past this.

Because the above quoted part sounds to me like something bugged out, i had to read a a couple of time. But to me that sounds like he wont give any dialogue at all.

Let me explain this to you guys: Larceny targets are not part of special missions in any way. They are extras. Delvin does not send player after them.

Special missions - city influence missions - are the factor hear. One of them has been opened for FredEffinChopin's character, but character has not completed it.

This does not sound as a bug, but as a unfinished mission that is required for Thieve's Guild quests to proceed. There is no neeed for console commands or mods.

Oh wow, there were a couple of responses while I was typing.

I'm trying to complete both of the missions, but Delvin simply isn't taking the items. The icon is on him and everything, but he just won't respond as if I'm turning in an item, and won't take it. I suspect it might be because I have two of the missions to complete at once, but I don't really know.

Yeah, I the setstage command is how I was doing what I described in the post before this, but it still didn't seem to shake Delvin out of his haze. Also, I'm skipping one of the larceny missions when I do it that way, and I'm not sure if that's a problem... I tried completing that one through the console as well, and it seemed like it might have worked, but there was no item for it to remove from my inventory, and I don't think any reward either.

Oh yeah, I should mention I was considering the mod too... I know little about it other than it has come up in lots of wiki pages as fixing solutions. As you suggested, Lordbufu, it seems like it changes a lot about the game, so I'm a bit hesitant to do it just yet. It looks like I might have to get into it though if this quest doesn't clear itself up some other way.

I have no idea why I even bother to answer, if you guys do not bother to read my responses. FredEffinChopin: did you even read what I wrote above, about larceny targets not being reason for this, but unfinished quests?

These are the influence missions. One of them has been opened for your. This is what is blocking your progress. Look it from your journal and go to complete it.

Silver Lining (Markarth)
The Dainty Sload (Solitude)
Imitation Amnesty (Whiterun)
Summerset Shadows (Windhelm)

IF none of these are there, then you really have a bug. So far you have not provided me any information to believe so.

I'm most appreciative for both of your guys' help, and I'm definitely reading the posts. When you were referring to the incomplete mission in your 2/3 post, I thought you were referring to these missions that I'm trying to complete. I'm not really clear on all the designations of all the types of missions, so I wasn't really sure what you meant by city influence missions. Your most recent post cleared up what you were getting at a lot though, and I do indeed have Summerset Shadows open. I'm going to go complete that, and hopefully (it certainly sounds like) it should clear up the trouble. I'll definitely post in here when it's over, one way or another. Thank you very much for the help.

*Phew*
Good to hear. I was afraid that we have to take yet another everlasting bug hunt session. :)

I just read my comments above. I think I sounded a bit grumpy there. I actually am, but not toward you and it shouldn't have mirrored here.

I am sorry.

I actually did read what you said, and was kinda refraining from replying again untill this explosion of messages slows down a bit as im not native english nor a fast typer.

But you know when someone tells you to finish a special quests first, id imagen the NPC its text being straight forward enough hench why i left that part alone. And as fas as i know, having a "special job" in the list doesnt stop Delvin from taking items only stops him and vex from giving new jobs. Although i cant find any solid info on that (on the wiki's), nor have i ever had both at the same time, i tend to hand in a item as soon as i have them.

And yes you sounded a bit grumpy  but you are forgiven :) (i was just looking up the special quest names to see if he had completed that for the jobs to apear again, but like mentioned im a slow typer)

Haha it's all good, everyone gets that way sometimes. I'm often that way myself. It's especially understandable when you have to type the same things twice, so I totally understood how it was annoying to see me repeating my misunderstanding of the situation. But yeah, it was just an easy area to get confused around.

And it worked! I beat SS and turned that into Delvin in the same conversation in which I returned the two artifacts. So I can finally get back to thieving now. Again, thanks very much for the help. I would have been doing all kinds of nonsense trying to fix what was never a glitch haha.
