Alternate Start Mod - How Do I Get to Main Quest??
So I've been playing the game now for 13 hours and I still can't find the main quest. My game started in Falkreath and I've been wondering around doing fetch quests and killing bandits but I'm getting kind of bored with that now. The Skyrim walkthroughs say the game normally begins in Riverwood but I have no idea where that place is at.

How do I start the main quest in this game? I played Skyrim years ago but I rushed through it in a few days so I literally remember absolutely nothing about it.

I'm starting to get frustrated because I seem to remember there being dragons and a lot of other cool stuff in the game but I have seen nothing but bandits and wolves this time around.

You ask for rumors at any Innkeeper, this should trigger some unvoiced dialogue usually the first time you try this, after the dialogue is over you will get a new quest which will lead you around Skyrim investigating the conflict between the Stormcloaks and Imperials. Eventually, the Quest will end up at Helgen where Alduin is attacking the place, you can either investigate for Survivors (Hadvar or Ralof) or you can warn Riverwood about the Dragon, both ways will finish the quest and start up the Main Questline. I hope this help :)

You want to go to either Helgen or Riverwood. Both of these are south of Whiterun. This map[vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net] may help. They are near the center, south or Whiterun.

The regular start starts with you getting out of Helgen, I usually helped Rolf, I beleive, and he brought me to his sister who runs the sawmill in Riverwood. Talking to her sets up your trip to Whiterun to see the Jarl, starting the main quest.

Never use mods like these on your first play through! They are intended for players who already know how the game starts and who want to either skip it on later play throughs or to mix things up. A first time player is not able to say "I really hate the game start" without having tried it.

Did you read the readme before you installed this mod?

Even if you didn't read the description ... there should be an explanation you should do ingame (missions). Firstly go to Helgen find a journal and then just follow instructions.

Nope, been all over Helgen backwards and forwards; this does nothing even after completing all the quests involving Helgen. I did FINALLY stumble into Riverwood, sheerly by accident late last night and talked to a blacksmith called Alvor and he triggered a quest called 'Before the Storm' which appears to be in the main quest line!

Unfortunately... I have 110 mods installed and the game is extremely crashy. I'd really like to start removing mods to improve performance but everytime I remove a few mods the game won't load anymore (usually gives a message saying that my save depends on files that are no longer available) and then promptly crashes to desktop.

So it appears I'm stuck with the mods I installed (absolutely no chance I'm starting all over again)

Ok it seems to be triggered now

This is why I always recommend NOT using mods on your first playthrough (other than unofficial patches)

With only 13 or so hours, it's easy to start over. Really it is. Take my advice and don't use any mods except the unofficial patches, and maybe SkyUI. Only add a mod if you feel a compelling need for the mod, but first read the instructions for the mod and all of the comments.

And TEST the mod first!!! Make a clean save, and make a copy of that save if you need to go back to it (and not on the damned cloud). Then test the mod. If it does not work as you expect, then go back to the save you stored away.

NEVER uninstall a mod in the middle of a game!!! That will only lead to heartache. So make sure you really want to mod before you make it a permanent part of your character.

With AS:LAL, typically you can also kick off things by talking to innkeepers (if you're far away from Helgen) and they'll drop hints that eventually push you in Helgen's direction. On all my AS:LAL starts, when you finally approach Helgen, you'll see Alduin lift off or be flying off into the distance...and so it begins.

On my current playthrough (just got done with Sovngarde stuff), I started in Blackreach (fun) and the quest log told me to speak to the innkeeper at Windhelm. That innkeeper spoke of Imperial goings on down south...eventually ended up speaking to the innkeepr in Riverwood that sent me on to Helgen. During other playthroughs, I've skipped all that and went straight to Helgen...worked pretty much the same.

Thanks for the tips guys!

I'm not starting over again; no way, no how. I worked too hard getting my character where she is now so if the game crashes permenantly then that'll probably be the end of my time in Skyrim.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the game but I'm trying to play it all in 3rd person like Dark Souls but the mechanics just aren't precise enough (like DS) to the point where it can get rather frustrating

I understand that, but this is a game where people put in hundreds and thousands of hours. And then start a new character! Being only 13 hours in is nothing.
