Removing Creation Kit left me with no Skyrim
I uninstalled the Creation Kit and my Skyrim folder along with GBs of mods and scripts have completely vanished. I can't even begin to express how much I'd like to kick the idiot that made the removal process. Hours upon hours of downloads of mods and updates are completely gone. I've had absolutely zero files that could be recovered. @#$%^@#$%^@!^#%^&*!!!!!!

"Delete Local Tool Content" removes only CK from installation. This process does not remove Skyrim folder or mods at all.

Even deleting the local content for the game itself does not remove Skyrim folder, or third party files - like mods.

Something else went wrong.

Yep I had to go in and manually delete the folders for the mods when i removed skyrim tempoarily. It does appear something else went wrong, but its possibly the uninstaller did something funky in your case, but it does not normally behave like that that.

I've found a few individuals that were lucky enough to go through the same magical experience of complete game loss. I just hope that after the download finishes, the mod managaer still has de mod list intact and I can restore the whole game folder, as it was, with all the mods.

It's 2016, and I'm unhappy to report that I too have been an unfortunate victim of this malicious prank. How is this still a thing, Bethesda?

How is that possible? I have removed CK from my installation twice, without loosing Skyrim. Is this somehow related to Workshop? I do not use any mods from there.

I hear tell removing SKSE via Steam leads to the same thing happening.

It wouldn't surprise me if things've changed over time; while Skyrim itself hasn't had any real updates in ages, the whole Steam / Skyrim integration thing seems to get a tweak or two each year.

Wow, that's news to me... hope I never have to reinstall CK

Just had it happen to me in 2017 - Uninstalled CKit deleted my whole Skyrim folder. Thank god I use Mod Organiser :D

2018. I'd love to get my hands around the neck of the stupid ass who built this process. I had the CK installed, never used it more than one or two times in a couple of years, decided to uninstall it from the tools screen. Right click on the CK entry, click on uninstall, Skyrim folder completely erased. Don't come around here Bethesda, I'll rip you a new one and a half with my bare hands. 3 years of modding, tweaking, customizing, all shot to hell. Sheer brilliance... At least I've got enough brains to back most of it up. More than I can say for the DF responsible for this idiotic move.

2018 uninstalled CK and lost my entire Skyrim folder, which means you also lose any customized files or presets you had. All gone because some moron in all of their brilliance decided to make CK uninstall the entire Skyrim folder. Seriously, who the ♥♥♥♥ do I sue at Steam for this? That's practically malware, deleting entire folders without my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ permission.

As other people have said, this is not intentional behavior, nor does it happen all the time. It seems that it happens very rarely to a few unlucky people.

I believe it's a bug in Steam's uninstaller somehow. I recommend you make a bug report in the Steam Beta forum, which is the official place to post bugs.
