What is that small square with two arrows pointing in a circle on screen?
This is probably the reason why I have an issue with sound. I cannot raise or lower my sound in game, nor control anything sound related unless I Shift+Tab first, then I can do whatever with the sound.

I have just gone back to playing Skyrim after playing other games, for most of a year's absence, so I'm behind the curve a bit. Can anyone tell me what that square with the arrows in circle inside it, is and how I can hopefully get rid of it?

Thanks for any help.

Crosshair? Some screenshots might help.

I am an idiot and so do not know how to post my screenshots here. Anyway, it seems to be some icon from Steam's overlay rather than a Skyrim game product. It is a small square, with two arrows going around in a circle, and it is on the bottom right-hand corner.

I've since discovered that it doesn't seem to affect other games, because when I loaded up Fallout: NV I was able to adjust the sound volume with that same square in-game. This is a small issue, since the solution is easy. I just have to Shift-Tab and then the sound is adjustable, and it seems to be just a Skyrim anomaly, so perhaps could be an issue due to a mod installed. <shrug>

To check if it is a Steam overlay issue, you could start Skyrim with Steam offline. If issue is there after that, you could try to narrow it down to mods(or verify game files). I suggest the offline mode, as in the past i got lots of CTDs; 80% of them happened while Steam did an update, or something like that. I went to offline mode for Skyrim and since then the ramdom CTDs were drastically reduced. Now if a CTD happens, iam able to quickfix it, as it is only something mod related.

It might be that you have a program running in the background. Perhaps Raptr, Fraps, or some similar recording or performance application.

What sort of keyboard? Seems to be a common thing, particularly with Logitech models.
