Essential NPC dead
Ok I've had some weird stuff happen in my latest playthrough. Only mods used are Unbound, Unofficial patch, Dragonborn and Hearthfire.

After completing Movarth's Lair in Morthal, it seemed almost everyone who could give a quest for the Assist people of Hjallmarch quest was either missing or wouldnt give quest. Specifically I was looking for Idgrod the Younger to deliver her letter to Whiterun. Left and returned many times over course of a couple days playing but never found her. Finally was able to complete Assist quest by chopping wood and giving it to Jorgen (he wouldnt ask me to).

I was still curious as to where Idgrod was though, so I found her RefID and did a console command player.moveto. I ended up in a weird limbo/purgatory type place consisting of 2 short intersecting corridors with pink/purple walls and a void at each end. In the middle were a bunch of named NPC bodies, many I remembered killing: Jaree-ra and his sister, Nepos the Nose, one of the wannabe thieves in the Ratway, etc. Idgrod's body was also there. I resurrected her, moved back to Morthal, and moved her to my position. She's now walking around Morthal, but talking to her only results in a generic response, no dialogue tree.

I'm not really worried about doing her quest, mainly I'm just wondering what the heck happened since I read she was an essential NPC and couldn't be killed under any circumstances. Also curious because there was one NPC in the limbo place that was still alive. Don't remember name but I looked him up and he is the one who will sneak me into the Thalmor embassy in Solitude later in the main quest. So I'm also wondering if the main quest line is now uncompletable.

So does anybody have any idea what may have happened and how it could be fixed?

Since you've got the unofficial patch installed, Idgrod isn't essential.

WTF! Igrod not essential? That's so not cool.

Thanks tmwfte, that answers one question. Still wonder what killed her though, didn't see any dragons attack, and I don't have the NPC-killing Dawnguard vampires enabled. Oh well guess I'll never know.

Looked up the RefID for Malborn, the one I saw stnding in the limbo who will later sneak me into Thalmor Embassy. Tried moveto but it said object didn't exist, maybe that ID only spawns when the mission starts. Looked up Nepos the Nose RefID and did moveto it. Took me back to the limbo. (walls are purple/green not pink/purple). Malborn is still standing there. Used the console to get his RefID, which was different than what I found on the wiki. Went back to overworld, did moveto his ID and it took me to the mountains north of Solitude where I guess the Thalmor Embassy will spawn. If I remember right you travel to it by wagon, cant get there directly. Must only spawn when mission starts.

So I guess I'm going to hurry along and do the main mission quests now to see if I will be able to get past the Diplomatic Immunity quest. Will report back to any who are actually interested.

Well the Diplomatic Immunity mission went off without a hitch. After it was over I went back to the limbo area and there was still an NPC named Malborn there, but he looked a little different than the Malborn from the mission. He had a braided goatee beard and red eyes, in the weird light couldn't tell if he was a Dunmer or a vampire Bosmer. Did moveto to the ID of the mission Malborn and I jumped to where he was running away. Jumped to the limbo Malborn's ID and it took me back to that spot on the side of the mountain north of Solitude.

Well guess I'm done playing with the concole commands for now, back to playing

The room you found is the death room, where the game stores copies of killed NPCs, and holds NPCs that only spawn after accomplishing certain tasks. Malborn would be moved from the room to the Winking Skeever inn once the main quest has been started.
