Keyboard only?
I'm trying to decide if I should buy this game and would appreciate some advice from this community ... if possible.
I'm an older gamer .. in my late 50's and not into FPS or frantic zombie killing for my gaming experience. I prefer mouse-driven games so I don't have to be hunched over my keyboard pressing madly away at the keys. Played a lot of Total War/X-Com/Company of Heroes and Adventure games or City building but I've never had one of these big sandbox open world games and I'm intriqued to try one out.

And so to my questions

Can you only use the keyboard for movement and fighting ..... or use the mouse or even a gamepad? I do prefer to sit back and relax whilst playing.
Is this just endless killing or making spells etc ... or am I about to embark on an incredible in a huge world with endless possibilities.
Do I buy just the base game or all the DLC's.
Is the single player campaign any good ... I've never played a multiplayer game before and the prospect doesn't interest me that much ... but is the multiplayer an enjoyable experience.
Is this the game for me? ... or could you recommend a better one (although i must admit the 75% off is a huge factor)

Anyway .. I would be very grateful for any input to help me decide.
Best wishes
Alan

The game plays well with a gamepad. But otherwise uses keyboard and mouse.

You'll probably be ok with just the base game. Aspects of the controls are similar to a first person shooter/beat em up. It's no mindless shooter/killing game. It does a good job of creating the feeling of a living world. Lots to explore, interactions to be had and whilst its story driven you can just go off and do your own thing.

Check out some 'lets play' videos of skyrim on Youtube to see if you'll like the game.

Go buy a 20$ gamepad and hook it up, this game got controller/gamepad support so you don't have to sit as you usually would when using the computer.

Skyrim got no multiplayer. Just a huge singleplayer story, probably 100+ hours of gameplay. If you buy the DLCs (Which I recommend) you could add maybe 50+ more hours of gameplay. (Buy the legendary version)

You can use a gamepad, yes. I don't use one myself, as I am not particularly fond of using a controller in a first person game, but yes you can use a gamepad. Otherwise, keyboard is used for movement and mouse is used for looking around. I believe there is a button you can press to make your character constantly walk in the direction you are facing, however.

It's both endless killing and a world with endless possibilities. If you want to go on the "kill everything" route, you can. If you don't want to kill everything and instead want to take a slower pace, you can get some spells that allow you to summon minions to fight for you or you can hire a bodyguard or something. You can also just walk around the beautiful environments of Skyrim admiring the scenery.

I'd suggest buying all the DLCs. They're all nice additions to the game that add quite a bit of content. The Dragonborn DLC adds an entire new island with a bunch of new quests, for example.

The main story of Skyrim isn't all that interesting, but the world is fun to explore and there's a ton of content outside of the main story to do. The game is pretty open-ended, so you can even make your own stories. In fact, one popular thing to do is create a backstory for the character you create and create a personality for them and act within that role. There are also plenty of dynamic events (even more if you get some user-made modifications for the game like Sands of Time and Extra Encounters) to allow you to create your own journey through the game.

Skyrim also doesn't have multiplayer of any kind, but that isn't a bad thing necessarily.

I would recommend Skyrim to you. It's a great game.

Thank you for your help ... I've now bought the game ... decided that it was too good a deal to resist ... even if I don't like it then I haven't wasted too much money and if I do enjoy it then I got a bargain ..... now to start looking at all of these Mods ... ha ha

For mods, check text and message box fixes from this post. They are especially helpful for peoples using controllers, because the glitch plaquing dialogue and messsage boxes are more severe for them. (Better Dialogue Controls and Better MessageBox Controls)

Small list of little big mods for Skyrim
