What is BOSS?
Okay, I have to firstly declare that i'm rather new to this whole modding thing. Perhaps even unbearabley uninformed. Originally I was like "oh hey a mod I like" *subscribe* yayyy fun fun. But as I subbed to more and more mods I noticed some weren't working. Then I read through them and realized I needed some file called SKSE which I now have (I THINK I put it in the proper location as per the download instructions) some even needed SkyUI which I also now have. But many of those same mods also recommend something called BOSS. What is it, what does it do and were can I get it?

If LOOT finding the first pathway, you may need to move steam and it folders to correct location. And remove any others you may have.

"C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\Skyrim\plugins.txt" This is not correct
Should be C: drive/programs files or program file(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim
When downloading LOOT/click download button/open page and goes to bottom/click on installer , then follow prompts.
Why isn't it correct?

If LOOT reports that it is failing to write that file, and that file is read-only, then it looks like LOOT is working properly and it is a filesystem problem. AppData\Local\Skyrim\plugins.txt appears to be where the list of plugins is kept, and loadorder.txt in the same directory is where the load order is kept.

LOOT is designed to sync your plu-ins for you. Make sure [while in the LOOT pgm] that you designate "ONLY" the Game Files you want it to access, ie: Skyrim. Otherwise it will try to organize your whole system. Data overload
@Ziggy as far as I can tell it was only trying to sync my skyrim mods/dlc I saw no other files on the list.

@Kelvy I just cut Steam and pasted it outside my program files (x86) folder. Apprently after reading LOOT troubleshooting section there is a bit in there about Windows 7 being very picky about what is done to the contents inside of that folder.
Now the problem is LOOT can't find my Skyrim files, so I may have to move Steam back to my Program Files (x86) folder. But then i'm back where I started.
Have you tried...
LOOT can also be launched with the LOOT.exe [--game=<game folder name>] command line parameter to set the game to run for.
...which is from the "docs\LOOT Readme.html" file in the LOOT install directory.
Ok so I'm not entirely sure why or how but, after cut/pasting my whole Steam folder directly under my C: drive....then cut pasting it BACK into my program files(x86) folder...my mods...all work now. Granted now i'm getting a SkyUI error saying that I may need to download the latest Skyrim patch but if thats the worst side effect to come of all that I've done over the past couple days I'll gladly accept that. (will still go and grab that patch though.) Everything seems to be working fine so far, save files are intact and not glitching out in any way so...I'm crossing my fingers here but I think I'm in the clear. Thanks to everyone who responded for your advice and your wisdom. :]
Hmm, interesting... maybe a permissions problem that got sorted out when pasting.
