Well dragonborn I wouldn't begin before level 25 or so ... Dawnguard ... level 5 weird because you meet that dawnguard guy not before level 10. In this playthrough I was level 70 before Dragonborn as for Dawnguard ... wel I'm now level 86 and not started yet.

I would not start Dawnguard before level 15, and not Dragonborn before 25.

Right after the Culists attack me after visiting the Greybeards is when i start the DRAGONBORN DLC. Miraaks robes are mighty powerful against anything any Dragon can throw at you. LEVEL 8 to 10

Whatever level I feel confident enough in my character's combat abilities. It ruins the game from a RP/Lore perspective if you go to Solstheim and clear a lot of dungeon using 50 potions or eating 50 cabbages every hard fight and have to use followers to do the hard work while you spend the whole time running and jumping around to avoid blows and waiting for your magicka to recover enough so you can cast a healing spell.

what about joining the companions? (excuse the spelling)

The Companions should work at any level since I believe most (if not all) stuff related to their questline levels with the character. Its meant to be one of the basic guilds you can join just as you start the game.

Yes + the College of Winterhold and the Thieves Guild factions.

I like to do Dragonborn at a high level because it seems more appropriate for two very powerful Dovahkiin to be battling, not one who is supposedly the first ever (and thus have lots of time to become strong) and a new kid on the block who only has a few shouts under his/her belt.

As for Dawnguard, 15ish should be good. The Forgotten Vale and Soul Cairn might be a little tough for a lower-leveled character.
I recommend it at 10 mate.

I would start Dragonborn as soon as you can just so you can get the Blackguard's armor, but you need to be around level 20 to fight most things, but high smithing skill might make things easier.

You could start earlier if you have a few companions like Sophia and Inigo who are slightly overpowered.

I haven't tried Dawnguard yet, but I regret not doing it earlier so I could get a crossbow.

I always do it after the main quest and maybe a guild quest or two. Dragonborn after Dawnguard and after every major quest I plan on doing, usually.

I generally don't start Dawnguard until 15-20. As for Dragonborn I usually don't start until I'm at least lvl 50.
