Good magic balance mod ?
Is there any good balance magic mods on the workshop, I have tried a few so far and they seem weak in places, namely at lv 81 testing against whiterun guards with flames.

Is there any recommended magic mods, I try to avoid mods with 101 spells being added, I'm not against them just hoping for something that gives the regular spells a boost in damage without jumping to overpowered first.

I recommend these two magic mods. one from steam workshop called mage unleashed. the second named Starkes Magic Rebalance from nexus.

I am using both at the same time, and both of them do well even when playing on legendry difficulty. or if you want some uniqe magic spells (not overpowerd) i recommend this mod.

Do you mean "balance" as making magic less powerful? Because the way I see it magic is terribly overpowered. No other skill in Skyrim can match the dungeon clearing speed of Illusion.

I haven't tried nexus, I normally try to stick to workshop.

Mage unleashed looks pretty over the top.

Its more aimed towards destruction, I tried many mods now and most damage increasing ones still feel feeble.

Even destruction can be made powerful when combined with crafting. For example, with a high quality potion and enchantments, and all relevant perks, the expert level Incinerate spell can deal more than 500 damage when dual cast (+targets on fire take some extra damage), with 100% stagger chance, 0 magicka cost, and faster than the typical rate of fire of bows. Although other schools of magic can admittedly be more effective and faster to level, like illusion, or conjuration combined with (bound) archery.

Empowered Magic

Empowered Magic is my personal favorite for a standalone magic overhaul. Really makes magic far more useful and also makes magical items much better, such as being able to wear a dragon priest mask without affecting your mage armor skill, and making an unarmored character MUCH more viable. Also gives a good balence and boost to all of the spells where needed. The various perk trees are also far more logical.
