I am using both at the same time, and both of them do well even when playing on legendry difficulty. or if you want some uniqe magic spells (not overpowerd) i recommend this mod.

Empowered Magic
Mage unleashed looks pretty over the top.
Its more aimed towards destruction, I tried many mods now and most damage increasing ones still feel feeble.
Empowered Magic is my personal favorite for a standalone magic overhaul. Really makes magic far more useful and also makes magical items much better, such as being able to wear a dragon priest mask without affecting your mage armor skill, and making an unarmored character MUCH more viable. Also gives a good balence and boost to all of the spells where needed. The various perk trees are also far more logical.
