Ralof or Hadvar?
I always pick Ralof because I was captured alongside him and first impressions it just feels better to go with the stormcloaks. I mean yes stormcloaks are complaining about peopel doing to them what they did to others but, first impressions. the imperials were going to axe you for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I also pick Ralof because if I go with Hadvar I will kill the torturer and his assistant either way.

Who do you pick to go with? Do you still stick with the same side in the civil war?

I honestly feel bad for whoever I don't pick so it's hard to choose one over the other.

I've done both. I've been through the game several times and have played to level 50 each time. Twice as a Stormcloak, the other as Imperial. This time I am simply an evil, two timing, lying, double crossing rogue, which has turned out to be the most fun. I let the Imperials win this time so Whiterun wouldn't be destroyed. I'm now playing the DLC Dragonborn for the first time. I'm having a rough time in Bloodskal Barrow as I haven't figured out yet how to escape.

The decision makes virtually no difference until you get to the jagged Crown Quest.... then if you are still supporting the same side Ralof or Hadvar will join you for that Quest. Which gives you an opportunity to reverse pick pocket the crown into their inventory ..... talk to Ulfric / Tullius about the crown end the quest and leave ... find Ralof / hadvar and pick pocket the real crown for yourself. At least this use to work if you wanted the crown !!

It's war, there will be casualties. Like poor Pelagia.

Hadvar's a puncy little milk drinker, hear his version of living in the shadow of the first dungeon you do, "he has dreams / nightmares, the draugr come climbing thru his window" ralof's version
"never understand why my sister lives in it shadow, guess you get used to it " plus the imperial were still going to have you beheaded, just no loose ends were left ralof ever or anytime

Who you choose does not affect what side of the war you're on. Both of them have decent RP reasons to choose them; one because you're a prisoner and prisoner's stick together, and the other because he was the only one even slightly nice to you.

On the other hand, game play wise, if you go with Hadvar then you get to use the house that they keep locked during the day. Which I find annoying since I can't get my stuff until night. With Ralof you're given a key.

good choice.
And I just feel better reunited siblings as opposed to a nephew and his uncle.
as far as im concerned they both make it out though.

I've done both sides also, but when it came to the main quest three quarters through, in the main stage, I tried to see if I could switch sides for kicks. You can, and I didn't know you could. But, I have stuck to each side until I found you could mess with them both. LOL

Indeed if you choose Ralof you can loot imperial heavy armor from the Imperials escaping Helgen .... I solved that with a mod that puts a chest with better gear in Helgen.

Can never find Ralof so always end up with Hadvar... it doesn't affect you allegiance permanently. At first I didn't want anything to do with him or the Imperials but he's just an ordinary guy caught in extraordinary circumstances. And as time goes on I found I liked the Stormcloaks less and less.

i was pro stormcloaks then slowly realized they're dickeheads and the choice is obvious.

Fallout New Vegas did their factions a little better. But the choice there is still easy. I help out the NCR because the soldiers mean well even if their supperiors are ♥♥♥♥♥ but i dont always favor them when given the choice.
as for the legion. ♥♥♥♥-EM. They. All. Die.
never has any game ever given me an enemy faction I have ever loved so much to kill.
thalmor come close but not close enough.

I honestly didnt know thier was a choice untill reasently. Hadvar is always just there in your face telling you to run, so i always followed him. Raolf is harder to find in all the commotion. The first few times i chose the stormcloaks because it seemed that was the "right" choice, all evidence and NPC gosip seemed to push you in that direction. Then i started paying attention to the politics and history, found out that the Thalmor are using everyone for thier own needs, when i heard Ulfric described as an "asset" of the thalmor, that was it. I hate the thalmor more than anything and am enjoying greatly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up thier plans. :)

DOWN WITH THE THALMOR!!!
dogshocker Nov 19, 2014 @ 2:19pm
Yes, yes......definitely Death to the Thalmor....and good hunting.

I have downloaded the Alternative Start mod.........it does what it says on the tin.
I'm quite enjoying playing as an ordinary 'geezer' rather than the Dragonborn .......but hell, after a good nights drinking I get to thinking that maybe I'm the Dragonborn !
I could go on about that arrow to the knee but I'll not bore you all !

I personally prefer Ralof, I like his rebel nord look and he seems like a cool dude. I sided with him in my favourite save, but ended up joining the empire later on.
