Just to be sure I'm understanding you correctly

- You are using a warhammer
- You HOLD the block button (Weapon well blocks your first person view)
- Enemy hits you
- You get the flesh hit sound damage

Be aware that blocking only reduces damage, not removes it

Ah. Again, blocking only reduces damage, it does not negate it.

So what you're saying is, when you put an egg in your egg cup you can still smash it with a teaspoon? A hide shield? You might as well use a hand-bag :-)

The above posts are correct. You can't stop the entire effect of a warhammer unless you have all the related perks in blocking and have enchantment for blocking on the shield and everything is maxed out, including your armor. Even then you will have the stagger effect from a power attack though no damage.

Best way to block an attack from said weapon is to hit him with your shield just as he starts his backswing. This will interupt his attack and gives you one maybe two shots at him before he can try again, rinse, repeat again and again.
A fur shield is better. JK. But I once made a list of armors and their rating where some furry ones were better than iron and steel.
Here is my list of start stats for armors:
Fur --76
Leather --86
Steel --66
Studded -76
Iron --53
Babded Iron --59
Dwarven -71
Ebony --94
Elven --96
Falmer Light -66
" " Hard -71
" " Heavy -91
Forsworn(furs) -86
Glass --126
Hide --66
Orc --84
Scaled --106
Steel Plate --84
Vampires --52 which is only cloth.

Fur and Hide is great for batting off skeevers and wolves. A warhammer? Hell, irl with my fists my average punch is +/- 370 Lbs. I'd hate to think what the impact weight of a warhammer might be. I'd imagine a piece of wood covered in either fur or treated fur (leather) would simply fall apart.

Thats why there should be a Leather shield or something

You could but that would be pretty heavy. Just for fun:

Just in case it hasnt been said, shields do not stop the dmg of incoming blows, merely reduces it based on shield and block skill.
