Can't Hire Hirelings

Hey guys and gals,

Got a bit of a strange one here. To me, anyway. As the title says, I can't hire any hirelings. Everywhere I've searched says your follower count is jacked up or your mods aren't working. The thing is, I have 0 followers as it's a new file I've started. And for mods? Well, I thought maybe that's what it was so I did a fresh install the other day and started naked, same story.

What happens is I'll come up to somebody you could normally pay 500g for to follow you, but in their dialogue, there is no option for that. Buuuuuut, if I don't have 500g on me, the dialogue option is there. Of course, when I click it, they kindly remind me I don't have that kind of gold on me and to come back later. So a quick "player.additem 000000f 500" later and I'm rich, talk to them agan, no dialogue option.

Haven't had this kind of issue before, and can't seem to find a solution anywhere. What do you guys and gals think?

When I did the reinstall, I had no mods and tried it out. Was still getting the same thing. So I went back and installed the ones I had, except for UFO.

So yes, at the moment I am. Mostly texture/graphic mods with Frostfall and some added weapons and armor

You prob did this already, but I'll ask anyway. Did you use consule command to manually set followers to 0? Even though you started a new save, the file might be glitched and needs to be reset.

Man this was a long time ago, but I remember it happening. If I recall correctly, I had tried the console to set followers to 0. Either way, I never got it working. Had to wipe Skyrim, Nexus Mod Manager, all my saves, everything, then ended up installing on a whole other drive O_o

I am having the same issue as well, except that the vanilla hirelings (Jenassa, Erik the Slayer, Belrand etc) are working - it's the newly added ones through mods which cannot be hired. I turned off ALL of my other mods not related to hirelings, started a new game, setting my followers to 0 through the console and it still happens for whatever mod that adds new hirelings.

Does anyone know a fix to this stupid issue? There's got to be a way to get them working since the vanilla hirelings still work.

Dismiss all folowers. Use console to get then set "followercount 0"
ie = set playerfollowercount to 0

Or, if you are using a follower mod such as EFF, for some custom followers you may have to "force" them to follow, Open the MCM menu for EFF and there will be an option for that.

Are you using LOOT for load orders or Wrye Bash for merged patches?
