DirectX 9.0c not running/installing correctly(solved)
Hey guys,

I am having trouble getting my games to work(the window keeps dissappearing when I press play). Games like Skyrim and Fallout aren't working because they require DirectX 9.0c, but I have DirectX 11. I have tried countless solutions:

-starting from the .exe
-installing directX 9.0c in safe mode
-Going to the folder and manually installing it for each game
-ensuring all windows updates, driver updates, etc. are downloaded
-i can't remember the rest(sorry)

here are my specs if that helps:

OS- Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
Version- 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Processor- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Video Card-NVIDIA Geforce 750 ti
DirectX- 11
8gb ram

Any help at all would be appreciated because now I can't play half the games i own.
Thanks in advance.

In my Skyrim folder I have another folder named Directx10 - but from the look of the contents it's just the redistributable version 9.0c

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109

Maybe it needs to be installed there for Skyrim to path to it? I really don't know.

What is the exact error message you are receiving?

I was under the impression that DirectX was always backwards-compatible.

Me to - but according to the interweb, Skyrim doesn't run under directx11 - sigh :(

whenever i try to install it I get an "internal error occured" message.
It says to check the log; the log says it's already installed so it can't do it again.

also I tried installing the end-user runtime into the folder...didn't work either

Odd. I'm pretty sure I played Metro 2033 with DirectX 11 and then played Skyrim afterwards with no issues.

you're probably running it in parallel. They can work together-- I just can't download mine properly or something

I think I installed that around 3 times :/ thanks anyway for the suggestion

That Folder I mentioned - Directx10 was installed in my Skyrim folder on the same date I validated my game. (I was just looking) I can only assume that Steam gave me the necessary files along with the required game update/patch.

Have you got a Directx## folder in your Skyrim folder, Kami?

hmm....I tried doing it again just now and it says it didn't install correctly...but it didn't install correctly when i tried to do it with recommended settings.

I also have a Directx10 folder.

Did you try the redistributable I suggested? I figure that's the one that would come packaged with a game requiring directx9.0c. Worth a shot?

i did both the things you guys suggested.
still nothing.
