A question about archery on master difficulty
I tried a non sniper archer on Adept but it was quite hard. This time, I was thinking of doing the same but using the enchantment on Master. Is this viable? Would I need a sword for some of the harder monsters out there?

Thanks

Carry a sword as a backup weapon. The sneak-archer is easily one of the strongest builds.

But it gets boring after a while because all you do is shoot and hide. I want a modern day soldier type of character.

No not like that. I mean just archery without having to hide all the time to make more challenging.

Ah. Well than that makes things abit more challenging. See for higher difficulties, the "Power shot" perk is a godsend.

But the catch is you can only get it without console commands or mods at level 50. Combined with Eagle Eye, it gives you alot of time to pelt them with arrows until they stop moving. Also on the sneaking bit; you don't have to sneak all the time. Maybe just the first shot to soften them up before you go Legolas on them.

What about slappying high enchantments on a bow?

Ice and Paralysis really hurt because it just means you have more time to shoot more arrows at them.

I see what. What about overall damage?

Now this is where it gets complicated with bows; the raw damage per shot is inversely proportional with the speed per shot. In other words, bows that do more damage fire slower than bows that do less damage. Also, arrows fired from slower bows have a higher velocity; they travel faster and are less affected by gravity.

This one is really up to you. Personally, I prefer the lighter bows which you can guess with my archer tactics of just continuously shooting my target until he or she falls down.

Sorry I meant using enchantments to increase the damage of a bow. I remember using a great sword as a mage once and I wrecked people without using the skill tree.

Oh that? Use the usual elemental stuff. The Destruction elemental perks do increase the damage of your elemental enchantments so keep that in mind.

A non-sniper archer? I'm not surprised. Thats the whole point of archery, or what makes it worthwhile.

Then why are you bothering with archery at all? Get a battleaxe and stand in front of your opponent and bash seven bells out of each other with sharpened lumps of metal then.

so an archer that doesn't sneak? perhaps a crossbow early but temper your bow to the max. enchant it if you must but enchant your gear with archery bonuses.

just max skill and 5 damage perks adds 200% damage plus say another 100% for gear along with a tempered bow and you are now doing 300+ damage in one shot with a daedric bow.

add a 2 second paralyze and presto 1 enemy by themselves is nothing unless it is a dragon which is immune to the paralyze effect.

or with enough soul gems to recharge it add 2 damage effects

I agree. Standing face to face and firing arrows at each other is unusual. Not something modern soldiers do, not even those modern soldiers that use bows. Not even in cinema (e.i. Rambo). The only thing I can guess is that he wants to be Legolas the Magic Elf.

Archery is for ranged attacks. You don't have to be stealthy, but you do need to be ranged. The problem is when the foes see you that range will quickly disappear. If you are not a stealthy archer, then a sword is not a backup weapon, it's your chief weapon. The bow is just there to grab aggro.
