Focusing on Stealth and having a Companion ?
I am trying to find out how this is going to work. I am some what low (lvl 11) and trying to sneak when you have a companion holding a sword and shield seems to kill abality to sneak. Although I am looking for a companion to 'tank' or more so absorb a lot of the damage I cannot take myself without dieing in seconds..
Basiclly, how is this gona work. Is their a companion that is 'stealth' based yet has enough hp to back me up in fights ?

Companions aren't much good at sneaking - even if they have some skill, they'll never try to re-hide once they're spotted.

Summons are a much better bet for sneaky-type players.

There are companions that have the ahh lightfoot perk ot something, cant remember what it is called, that do not set off traps and there is commands to tell them to wait here.....err or there so you can go sneak

Well, in Riverwood location, there's an elf with decent sneak stat. But you have to do a mini quest before you can recruit him.

I do remember seeing a mod that gives companions better sneaking mechanics,

unfortunately those that are decent at sneak suck as a tank. and even more so they will not benefit from any sneak equipment given them.
having a follower wait and then moving on, come back for your follower once you have gone so far. if you run into trouble and need help you can lure the enemy back to your followers position where they will then get involved.

check the page and follower links to see what every follower is like

In the vanilla game followers don't sneak. There are a few stealthy types (as you'll see in the wiki) but 90% are warriors.

There is a mod that will make followers go into stealth mode with you (and another that will have sneaking NPC's turn off the torches they carry).

Even the sneaky followers suck. If you're a sneak then go solo.

They're certainly supposed to, and for most players, they do.

You can try using console to add surefoot to your followers. It should make them completely silent.

find your followers refid to add it.

For example, if using Lydia:

prid a2c94
addspell 0009379c

any good sneaky little bas-tard always works by himself

Humm I would like to know more about this. Could you please tell me how to program the other Companions to move with a surefoot ?!

Thank you

You can find the list of vanilla followers here:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers

Click on the name of the follower you want to give surefoot. Find their refid and then type what I posted before, using the followers refid code number in place of where it says refid below.

prid refid
addspell 0009379c

I've used this tactic with varrying degrees of succes. Every so often, they'll just stand there and watch me get murdered right in front of them. Maybe they were on union mandated break, "Sorry bro, but it's my lunch hour".

Amazing Follower Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com] has an option that makes followers not only sneak, but turn invisible and ignore combat. I know that's not exactly what you're looking for, but it is quite useful if you want to scout an area and not have to go a long way back to pick up a waiting follower.

AFT also handles that. There is a setting to make followers not trip traps. I prefer to avoid console commands because they can have ripple effects that cause problems later.

farkas, vilkos, are the most stupid followers and tend to get their own butts killed by not recognizing when they are being hit. so ya I agree and half the time I have to hit them myself for them to wakeup. AFT is the way to go
Shrapnel Jan 15, 2015 @ 4:29am
get a mod or make your own (follower) in CK and tick the 'doesnt affect stealth meter' option on traits page. Set them to protected and you have your sneak tank right there
