Caps lock bug
Every now and then when i alt-shift to the steam overlay, my typings become auto caps locked, even without me pressing it at all. One said it happened to him too, and that changing the key binding of 'toggle walk/run' from caps lock to anything else will resolve it, but it didnt for me.
The only way i've found to avoid this is to double alt-shift after its caps locked so i go back to the steam overlay with a normal typing. but it happens too many times (about 1 of 3 times i alt-shift).

Is there any proper solution to this problem?

This appears to be a specific steam bug rather then something directly related to the overlay while running skyrim. I have had this bug myself in multiple games. You may be better off posting this on the general community forum (sorry I dont have a link on hand) or where valve can get proper access to it
It only happens in skyrim for me. But i'll post there too.
Thanks.

P.S - If u had this problem yourself, did u fix it? And if yes, how?

No I didnt fix it manually, it just went away after a week or so by itself. I'm still watching and waiting for it to reappear though.
I wish I could provide a solution for you, but really all I can suggest is forward the issue to valve somehow and hope that they can rollout a more permanent solution for everyone on their end.
Well at least its not a personal issue and it happened to a few people as well as myself. Just curious, at which games did it happen to u?

I had it happen in Skyrim, Crypt of the Necrodancer and Primal Carnage. So its definitely not isolated to one particular game type, it may just appear that way a lot of the time because of the popularity of skyrim and the amount of hours that people put into it which give more chance for the bug to present itself. Ive seen other people post of this issue here as well, and I had a mate that was having it at the same time as me.

I'm experiencing this currently with metro 2033. I'm also in the steam beta.

Sticky keys may be your problem, a guide for it can be found here;

Cold boot probably wouldn't hurt either.

I thought about that alreadyu but sticky keys aren't on. However, I just checked again and key lock on a double press WAS on. That may have been my issue because sometimes the overlay doesn't come up because the game is still loading so I press it again. I think that was locking shift. Thanks for the help.

Happens so often at skyrim remastered and it's sooo annoying

Not to contribute to a necro, but I've often found that pressing either or both of the Shift buttons or toggling Caps Lock on and off seems to fix it. If not, closing then reopening the Overlay usually does it. Not the greatest solution, but it works.

I have this bug too now for some reason when i shift tab while playing skyrim I TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS untill i tap Shift

8 years later and I found the solution, turn capslock on so it makes it all undercase, then open the steam overlay with shift+tab then hit capslock again

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
