A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
Meridia please no, I don't wanna do this quest again.
I didn't mean to touch your damn beacon.

There are two truths in skyrim

1) I will always over estimate my ability to survive a fall.
2) I will pick up Meridia's beacon whether I want to or not

add nexus mod - daedric dawnbreaker = awesome sword now.

I like the pretty halo effect but that's about it.

This has always mystified me. I just don't get it. If you don't want to do a quest, then don't do the quest. If you goof and pick up the beacon by mistake (it happens), just ignore it. It doesn't weigh anything, and no one is going to send thugs after you if you don't do every quest listed in the journal.

I usually do most of my soul trapping on the draugr. If Dawnbreaker had that spell affixed to it I'd probably use it.

From what I have determined it's a leveled quest. My problem is that I am never paying attention to the level I'm at when I find it. It will usually be in the first chest that you open when you reach a certain level. Around level 10, I think. I usually just leave it in the chest if I catch it, if I don't then it is stuck in my inventory since I don't do any of the Daedric quest if I can avoid them.

Try the Timing is everything mod - it allows you to postpone certain quests as far as you want, even to infinity and beyond!

I never died in my play troughs by falling out of the sky .....

Me neither, and I've done that quest five times.....?

Try the following: do not look down while falling. I know this isn't the most "technical" solution, but that fixed it for me.

I tested this out, when I kept dying the first time she picked me up. I made a quicksave just before the event and kept testing it out. Every time I looked down the fall killed my character. Every time I kept looking Meridia's light, my character walked away alive.

Of course this advice goes to category "confirmation needed", because I have only tested this with my own character and haven't done that quest for a loooooong time.

Or, I could stop giving BS suggestions and read the UESPWiki page instead. *Headsmack*

It is more likely that moving my mouse to look up re-positioned my character and the direction I was looking did not actually matter.

It must be the position as I didn't have the Unofficial patch for the first and second games.

Edit: Yes I did see the patch fixed the problem.

I'd recommend doing this at home or someplace safe, in case you change your mind.

Save. Use ~ to open console and type

player.inv

then find Meridia's beacon in the list of items you have on you. (Easier if you dump everything you can in a container first) Get the ID number associated with Meridia's Beacon, then type

player.drop [ID number without brackets]

and Meridia's Beacon should drop to the floor. You can then drag it around, shove it in a corner, sit it in a bowl, or whatever, like you would move any other object. If you accidentally pick it up, just do it again.

The wikia page shows 4e4e6 as the ID number. You will want to double check that in your player.inv list, but if it's accurate, your command line should be

player.drop 4e4e6
