NMM is safe and much better to use for modding then the workshop you don;t get auto updates breaking your stable game state and you can set load order ect. If you wish to use a lot of mods there's some really useful video guilds on the basics on youtube also check out LOOT and Tes5Edit and watch some video guides on how to use them it's easier then typing/reading ;)
Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about honestly.
If they updated automatically(which you don't want to occur), I wouldn't have this really old version of the hedge knight armor installed, or the drakian race be 5.8c rather than d.
Also if a mod was taken down, it wouldn't affect your installed mods at all. I have this old mod that has since been uninstalled still in the manager that was deleted previously(long time ago, due to it broke).
Thats what i thought, i was wondering why he said it auto updates. Its been so long since I played the game that i thought it changed a bit. Thanks for the answers.
runs perfectily fine for me
@ Emporor: What random problems have you encountered from using NMM? I've never heard of any random problems caused by NMM.
