You could just go to a dragon shrine and wait 24 hours again and again and again till you have enough souls

Talk to Arngeir - he'll send you to their locations once you progress the main quest. Also, shout inside towns. Should get a courier delivery etc. Or, travel to a new town by carriage, one generally spawns but not always.

Dragons respawn at shrines every 24 hours?

Respawned dragons at dragon roosts don't come with dragon souls unfortunatly. If you haven't done all the roosts, I recommend doing so, as each will yeild you a soul.

I've got this from shouting inside dungeons quite frequently as well. However, this leads to word walls, not dragons.

I would recommed getting a mod to make them spawn more often; I've found the vanilla spawn rate to be slow.

In that case. "Timing is Everything" is good for that. Mine's set to respawn every 3 days :-)
Fast traveling has always seemed to spawn more for me than anything else . except mods.

If you want to get dragons use the Console Command Player.modav dragonsouls #. Such as 30 or 40 then the Dragons will start showing up for some reason.

Just spawn them. Sure you can add the souls, but that's not as fun. If you want to be immersive about it, just spawn one or two per town.

Eh, I hate using console commands. They make me feel like I am "Cheating" >_>

When you've got 500+ hours into the game like us, cheating to get started or skip massive grind walls is very welcome. I mean i started up 10 different characters already i have no reason to regrind my character from a pip squeek to a titan each time. It takes a good 30-50 hours to get going with relatively good gear/spells and perks. (Playing in legendary you even need to have a follower with you at all times or you willl fail with the massive handicaps you have). [Which dissapears as you max smithing/enchanting and your other skills].

They spawn fairly rarely for me- but I've had a couple so far. My current character's not dragonborn so... I've had 2 on the road randomly and 1 in Falkreath- they were delayed I think before fast travelling to Falkreath.

Absolutely. I hated the boring start so much I would just "showracemenu" to make new characters. Finally got a fun working alternate start mod to skip that all though. In a sick way I love Falmer and Sabercats being a challenge you're thrown into. I've logged much less hours but there's some great mods out there that can really turn you out of your comfort zone and change how you play completely. It may not become your favorite or an essential way- but more's better.

To find dragon lairs speak to all the innkeepers about rumours, they will often have bounty letters from the Jarls about dragons or bandits.
