Unique Build Ideas?
I've found that I only ever play Skyrim characters for long periods of time if they are unique character builds in the world of fantasy RPGs.

I've only beaten the main quest twice as a death knight (based off the WoW version) and as a pyro knight (basically a spellsword that only uses fire magick and fire damage enchanted swords). I've had a lot of fun playing the pyro knight, and Im looking for something unique in that aspect (being something unique like that).

Hoping for a little inspiration here.

There are plenty of excellent ideas in this thread, but I thought I'd come at this topic from another angle.

It's not really a specific unique build per se, but one really interesting way to play is by investing in every weapon and armor type, and only using gear you find as loot. Smithing and enchanting really suck the joy out of finding equipment, but when the only enchantments available to you are ones on randomly found weapons, you really start to appreciate what you find more, and you start having to shape your battle strategies around what you have to work with.

Plenty of roleplays can fit this style of play too. Maybe your character is a Skyrim-born Altmer who has forsaken the magical arts, instead taking to physical arms in solidarity with the Nords with whom he lives. Or perhaps your character takes to a life of banditry after what little he had was confiscated by the Imperials when he was captured, taking the armaments of his victims to use and keep as trophies. Or maybe Akatosh simply accidentally blessed the wrong guy with Dragon Blood, and the Dragonborn ended up being a talentless goober who can't smith or enchant to save his life, so he just picks up and swings around whatever's on hand, and struts around in mismatched light and heavy armor like some sort of medieval fantasy haute couture model.

I like my Paladin build. heavy armor. block and one handed. + high resto = some major dmg on undead..

my wanderer. he cant fight at all but is a mind f-er with his illusion and alteration to just fade away into the shadows again with sneak.

my hunter. sneak marksman blacksmithinig lightarmor.

sounds all pretty basic i know but all are bound to heavy RP rules

I decided to create a "Knight of Stendarr" build because I like the Vigilants of Stendarr but think they are weak as hell (nearly every instance of encountering them involves them somehow dying or being defeated). I also like paladins but Im not too big on sword in one hand, restoration in the other. I wanted to do a damage dealer who can also pull some support healing if needed, but is largely a damage dealer.

Basically the major skills are Two-handed, Restoration and Enchanting

minor skills are a mix between heavy armor, block and light armor.

Basically the character is a more heavily armored vigilant with a two handed damage dealer, some healing spells (enough to reach Stendarr's Aura) and trading out alteration for enchanting (mostly cause I like enchanting things a lot and wanted a craft skill, but the point could be for captured souls of the unclean or vile for roleplay purposes).

The roleplay would involve collecting Daedra artifacts to keep them from falling into the wrong hands and doing what the other vigilants do (killing vampies, werewolves, necromancers, daedra and daedra worshippers, etc.).

my current game is a Duel wielding Redguard with no magic or archery skills, I am in light armor and that is for the speed bonus as i can't block.

I've modded to have a very SAO theme and am roll playing to that end as Kittytoe(or some one who killed him and took all his stuff). No save scumming I only save on fast travel and exiting the game or points I know the game may break.

I've go an Asuna follower, Kirto's weapons and clothing and SAO sound track the game feels and sounds great now ;)

Thats how i'm rollplaying atm btw :iffy: misses compa ;)

I play a pure argonian Cryomancer
It's hard

I know what you mean. Frost magick sucks in Skyrim cause of how many things are resistant to it. It also seems like it doesnt work the way it is supposed to by slowing enemies down. It slows me down when its fired at me, but doesnt seem to slow enemies down when I use it.

I remember that I tried to create the Oblivion version of the Necromancer NPC class (basically conjugation and frost magick destruction). I ended up giving up at Bleak Falls Barrow because it was just such a hassle.
Perma does add perks which give frost physical damage though. Useful.

How can you have a 'build' in skyrim when there's literally nothing from stopping you from maxing everything?
A build consists of putting your *limited* amount of stats into certain skills to play/fight through a certain style.
There's no limit on what you can do in Skyrim.
Isn't that really obvious? -___-
There are only so many things you can do in Skyrim. You can easily finish all major questlines and become thane in every single hold by level 60 or so, and with 59 perks you can fill... 5 skill trees. Which is less than a third of the maximum.

Skyrim players make builds because 90% of the time they will have a limited arsenal of weaponry and skills. Best to focus on one of them, don't you think?

The most fun ive had in Skyrim is playing these builds

-standard paladin build, heavy armour, block, one hand, resto, but main focus on blocking/bashing, and all stamina build for shield charge hijinks. Found a mod for an epic dwarven tower shield. Super durable, dps is kinda meh, but so much fun.

-ranger type build, bosmer archer with no magic, and a werewolf. Got a mod for better wildlife, and tamable pets. Only smithing i do is from the pelts i collect myself. Very satisfying.

-monk with telekinetic powers, this one is mod heavy, no armour/no weapons, but i got a collection of fun kung fu animations, scaling unarmed damage mod (still on the weak side). Throw in improved telekinesis spell that can actually do some damage, and you suddently care alot about random junk lying everywhere. Hard to find the right mix of cool powers that are not overpowered, so i leaned on the weaker side. Fights are hard, but so much more exciting and dynamic. I fling cabbages and cheese wheels at dragons, so nothing more needs to be said about how awesome this playthrough is.

My next one will probably be some sort of dwemer contraption summoner. Just need to research the best conjuration mods for it, and maybe a dwarf race mod to go with it.

Because it's really hard to focus on more than a few skills and still put perks into them. You have to focus on a few to actually get anywhere in them.

Play as the Dragonborn using only your shouts and use WOODEN SWORDS as only weapons, you can up grade the swords too.

Play as a vagabond
Here's a build I've been playing around with:

Ebony Battlemage:
A Breton who uses both spell and blade to put down their enemies. The major skills are Restoration, Alteration, Destruction and Envhanting for Magic tree, One-Handed Heavy Armor and Smithing for the Warrior Skills and Alchemy as an extra skill. Your main goal for smithing is to get the Heavy Armor variant of the Ebony Mage Robes from the Immersive Armors Mod, and the Enony Cutass from the Immersive Weapons Mod. Here's a link for the perks you'll need: http://skyrimcalculator.com/436582. This should be an interesting build for you to use.

With the Path of Sorcery mod, I love playing an illusion mage. Frenzy rune for kicks, and using my stealthy arts to kill enemies with their own shadows, dragons included if I can sneak up on them. I keep a dagger on hand as well, and use available shouts if needed.

If you look at their "Hero" builds, there's a lot of really fun builds there :) I especially like the Knights Mentor, the levelling bit makes it awesome :D
