Not sure if you must but its a good start.
I say must because if I dont say must, people don't use them and then we get 100 bug reports in the first week after a sale of people getting bugs that the patches already fix :)

I have loaded up my first game since 2011 and only by starting up the game whit the patches installed they did fix several of the bugs and errors I did have in that save and I can play again whit my first save.
However yes, in other cases it does help reduce the amount of bugs massively
