Braith is adoptable?? (GTLICH)
I was wanderering around Whiterun, minding my own business, when suddenly Braith says:
"What..what am I going to do?" and the option to adopt her will show up. I know her parents are alive (at least Amren) because afterwards I got Amren's quest to retrieve his family sword. Any ideas?

TL;DR: Basically Braith is adoptable even though her parents are alive and well.

NOTE: I am horrible when it comes to scripting and console commands. I will try to use them if I MUST, but if possible, please try and keep solutions away from those methods.

Many children become adoptable if their parents are killed. I am not sure if she is one of them, but that is most likely the case.

Both parents being alive is weird though.

Braith can become adopter if (both) her parents are killed, if that helps!

But as I said, I know athat her parents are alive. I saw saffir having the argument with amren.

I've gotten that with kids in Solitude whose parents are alive, too. I think it's just a bug with the game giving the dialogue options to the wrong kids.

Save the game and ask him/her to live with you, see if the dialogue actually does anything other than a false flag trigger.

Her father while a loving father/husband and an overall decent person is more interested in finding his father's sword while her mother is more invested in her books than she is in her own daughter. Still, poor Lars.

Are you sure they haven't died before and been resurrected by you and the console? That's the only thing I can think of, other than a bug (or possibly mod conflicts, they can do some weird stuff...)

there are many children in whiterun

I recently did the quest to get the amren family sword. I was close to having it when it popped up as the quest was failed. This led me to believe Amren had died somehow so I went back to whiterun to investigate. He wasnt dead but Braith was adoptable, guess the game thought he was dead.

They were never killed, so I never resurrected them.

With no avaliable solutions, I'm just going to come to the conclusion that Lars-Battle Born was smart enough to trick Braith into believing her parents are dead and that her house is now haunted by their souls. Also, whenever she sees her "parents" in the daytime, they are just the "assasins" who killed her parents, and are now imposters.

Its actually the AdoptableOrphanage quest, it packs off orphaned kids to Riften. Why it would kick in when the parent are still alive I have no idea.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
